Clay County Wrestling Club

HISTORY: The Clay County Wrestling Club was organized in 1972, with approximately 35 members by Greg Grater and Jerry Fraser, the high school wrestling coach at that time.  Last year, we finished the season with around 50 members and are competitive within the State of Kansas.  During Greg’s time, we consistently had State Champions and medalists at the State tournament and have had several All-Americans.  CCWC has also had National Champions at the National Kids Folkstyle Tournament in previous years.  This level of wrestling is a building foundation for the junior high and high school programs in our area.

THE SPORT:  Wrestling helps develop a young person to be self-reliant and disciplined.  Wrestling is an individual sport, but also a team sport and anything you accomplish on the mat is your reward.  Wrestling helps builds self-confidence, encourages development both mentally and physically, teaches self-discipline, and it helps a young child to think and react by himself without the assistance of others.  Wrestling also helps in other sports because they learn hand/eye coordination and mind/body movement.  Wrestling is a lot of fun especially when the whole family becomes involved.  We encourage team members and families to sit together and cheer on CCWC wrestlers at the tournaments to help create a team atmosphere for our athletes.

CCWC Coaches: CCWC coaches have an abundance of experience in wrestling by either coaching the sport or participating in wrestling.
