The Frederick Hustler's 11U pulled out a close one tonight against the MD Cards 6-5.  The Cards jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an unearned run.  Zach Oseneek led off with a walk for the Hustler's in the bottom of the inning. After stealing his way to third, he scored on Jay Parente's sacrifice to tie it up.  The Card then came back with 3 more runs in the second to pull ahead 4-1.  The Hustler's were able to cut the lead to 4-2 in the third inning when Colby Moran lined a single into the outfield and Zach Oseneek followed it up with a double in the gap to bring Colby home.  Jay Parente refused to give up any runs in the third taking the Cards down 1-2-3.  The Hustler's bats finally awoke in the fourth inning. Nathan Cavenee led off with a single. He scored on a scarifice by Jacob Stinson.  Dax Mitchell followed with a single. Colby Moran reached on an error and scored on Zach Oseneek's second double of the day.  Oseneek scored on a Jay Parente single.  Parente would come home on a Makhai Evans single to put the Hustler's up 6-4.  Dax Mitchell only allowed 4 runners to reach base and allowed a single run over the last 4 innings.  Dominic Gomez play a great defensive game at third with 3 put out.  Colby Moran ended the game by catching a pop-up in left field to end the game. The Hustler's held on for a 6-5 victory.

The Hustler's 11U squad ran into a quality Elkridge team today.  We were able to get up early behind the crafty left-hander Jay Parente who threw another 4 great innings.  Jay himslef scored in the first on a Mike Dodson single.  Dominic Gomez was plated in the second inning on Colby Morans hit.  Dodson came up big again in the third inning driving in Zach Oseneek and Jay Parente for his 3rd RBI.  The 4-1 lead unfortunately couldn't stand up to the Elkridge bats which exploded for 7 runs in the fifth inning.  The Hustlers fought back in the botton of the firth though cutting the lead to 8-6 when Dax Mitchell and Zach Oseneek were able to steel to third and come home on passed balls. Elkridge got 4 more in the 6th and the Hustler's could only manage one, as Nathan Cavanee scored on Dominic Gomez second hit of the game. The final score was 12-7.

In game two the Elkridge squad jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first.  The Hustler's battle back to tie it in the second when Dominic Gomez scored on Colby Moran's sacrifice. Elkridge pulled ahead by 1 in the bottom of the second and the Hustler's bats got cold.  Elkridge added 4 in the third and 2 in the fifth to jump ahead 8-1.  The Hustler's battle back in the 6th plating Jay Parente and Mikhai Evans on a wild pitch and a Nathan Cavenee sacrifice, but it wouldn't be enough as Elkridge won game 2 by a final of 8-3.

The 12U Frederick Hustlers opened their 2016 campaign in grand fashion, beating a solid Backyard University Gamer squad out of York, PA by scores of 4-0 and 12-4. Pitching ruled this cold day at the park as Nick DeLisi, Luke Schlimm, Matt Cunningham and Jake Sherdel all pitched well. DeLisi was particularly sharp in the opener tossing four shutout innings with eight strikeouts. Schlimm closed out game one in equally dominant form striking out four in two innings and worked the first two innings of game two and only allowed one run with two strikeouts. Cunningham pitched the middle three innings of game two allowing two runs in his first inning before settling down and tossing two shutout innings. Sherdel closed out the game giving up one run and benefiting from a beautiful double-play by 2B Andrew McElwain.

The Hustler bats were hot on this chilly day, producing six hits in game one and eleven in game two. New addition Gabe Torres got things started in game one with a run-scoring single to left followed by Ryan Bennett’s RBI liner to right. JT Sachar led off the third with a sharp single to left center and was brought home with a laced RBI double by DeLisi to the gap in right center. Torres drew a walk to start the fourth and was eventually driven home by Ryan Talbert. The Hustlers exploded for 12 runs in the nightcap with Sachar, Cunningham, Tyler Prather, Talbert and Schlimm each accounting for two. Schlimm and Bennett each had three hits; one of Schlimm's was a double. DeLisi had two doubles and three RBIs. On the day, Bennett was 5-6 with four RBIs, DeLisi was 3-6 with three doubles and four RBIs, and Schlimm was 3-5 with three RBIs.

The 10U Frederick Hustlers got their season underway on Saturday, April 2nd, playing in the Long Horn tournament in Leesburg, Virginia. The first game had the Hustlers paired up with PG Select Blue Sox. Ryan Jones pitched a scoreless 1st, and the Hustlers quickly put two on the board in the bottom of the first as Camren Baker and Jones scored. PG Select tied the game in the second, and went ahead in the top of the 3rd by a run. But the Hustlers responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the third and held on to win a tight 5-4 victory. Jones pitched the first two innings, while Mason Miller pitched the middle inning, and Landon Johnson came on in the last two innings to shutdown PG Select. Each of them pitched well. This game was about pitching and defense, as each team only had four hits. The young hustlers committed only one error in the game. Baker, Jones, Miller, and Landon Johnson each had one hit for the Hustlers.

The second game had the Hustlers facing the Potomac Riverdogs. The Riverdogs scored 5 runs in the first 3 innings, but could not keep up with the hot Hustler bats, as the Hustlers plated 3 in the first, 4 in the second, and 4 more in the 3rd. The game was called after 4 innings due to the time limit, and the Hustlers came away with a 12-5 victory. Brett Lucas led the way with 2 doubles, one which was a monster shot to right center that bounced off the top of the fence and back into the field of play. Mason Miller and Jaxson Wood each hit long doubles in the game also. Camren Baker, Ryan Jones, Connor Allen, Miller, Landon Johnson, Logan Malachowski, Landon Tolbert, and Wood each had 1 hit. Tyler Schroyer pitched the first two innings, and Brett Lucas pitched the last two innings in the win.

Unfortunately the tournament was canceled Sunday due to the weather. The Hustlers are back in action next weekend, starting CRAB league play

Day 2 of the Upper Chesapeake Baseball Festival was eventful to say the least.  We played our last game of flight play against the Piedmont Spartans at 9:00 am with temperature around 30 degrees and 50 mile per hour wind gusts.  Mother Nature tried to get the best of us, but the boys held tough.  Zach Oseneek reached base to start the game and scored on Mikhai Evans single. Evans later scored on Mike Dodson's sacrifice to stake us to an early 2 run lead.  Colby Moran reached to lead off the second, stole second and third and scored on Dax Mitchell's sacrifice.  The Hustler's exploded for 6 runs in the  third inning plating Jay Parente, Mikhai Evans, Mike Dodson, Nathan Cavenee, Dominic Gomez, and Colby Moran.  We added two more in the fourth as Parente and Evans scored. Parente added another run in the 6th on another Mikhai Evans hit.  Twelve runs would be more than enough for another solid pitching performance.  Domic Gomez started us off with two shutout ininings.  Chase Baxter and Dax Mitchell pitched a solid 3rd and 4th keeping us in front and Zach Oseneek shut the door on Piedmont in the final two innings.  The 12-6 victory allowed the Hustler's to earn the #1 seed going into the four team playoff.

The semi-final saw the Hustler's facing off with a rival from last year in the Hickory Hornets from Aberdeen.  The Hustler's were able to get 2 runs in the second inning when Chase Baxter drove home Dominic Gomez and Jacob Stinson. These would end up being the only two runs of the game for the Hustler's.  Jay Parent pitched three shutout innings to start the game off.  He only allowed three runners to reach based and promptly picked one of them off first base!  Mike Dodson came in to close the last three innings. The Hornets were able to plate a run in the 4th, but Dodson was dominate in the final two innings only facing 7 batters to close our a 2-1 victory, earning us a trip to the finals.

The finals saw the wind stop and the temperature hoving near almost 50 degrees. Great Baseball weather for April! Teh Delmarva Ace's out of Delaware were coming off a big win over Sandy Springs, but we came out strong in the first inning. Zach Oseneek walked and later scored on Mikhai Evans single.  Evans was plated by Mike Dodson's single and the Hustler's jumped out to a 2-0 lead.  Colby Moran led off the second with a single, stole second and took two bases on a beautiful sacrific bunt by Dax Mitchell stake us to and early 3-0 lead. Dax Mitchell shut down the explosive Ace's bats and held them scoreless over the first 3 innings.  Delmarva's bats came alive in the final 3 innings scoring 7 runs and putting the Hustler down 7-3. The Hustler's showed a lot of fight as Mikhai Evans unloaded with a triple and scored on a Mike Dodson single in the 6th.  The Huslter's loaded the bases but failed to plate another run falling 7-4. It was a great weekend of baseball for the boys!
