15U Hustlers Suffer First Loss

Posted by Wayne Main at Jun 11, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Elkridge’s Jordan Carr and Jimmy Cain made big pitches when it counted and the Hurricanes defeated the Hustlers 8-2 at Howard High School. The Hustlers scratched out nine hits but were only successful two out of eight times with runners in scoring position and left nine runners stranded. Noah Tucker (Tuscarora) suffered the loss, working 2 2/3 innings and giving up eight hits and five earned runs. Vaughn Parker (Thomas Johnson) worked the final 3 1/3 surrendering four hits and three runs (two earned). Alex Cartner (Middletown) had two doubles, two walks and an RBI and Parker had two hits (one double) and an RBI. Joey Schwartz (Smithsburg) was on base all four of his at bats and Braden Thomson had a double. Andy Weaver had four hits for the winners.  Interestingly enough, Elkridge’s Carr was a tournament addition for the Hustlers 2011 14U team that won the NABF World Series in Lynchburg, VA; Carr pitched the Championship game that year.
The 10U Hustlers ran the table at this past weekend's 15-team Battle at Gettysburg tournament.  They defeated the GoWags Thunder 12-5, the Aberdeen Arsenal 13-4, GoWags Thunder again in the semifinal winning 8-7, and the GoWags Rockhounds 12-5 in the championship game.  More details will follow later in the week. Congratulations boys and coaches!!! image

Hustlers (15U) Sneak Past HCYP Blue 5-4

Posted by Wayne Main at Jun 5, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Vaughn Parker (Thomas Johnson) went 2-2 with two doubles and three RBIs and Taylor Itnyre (Brunswick) had three hits and scored twice as the Hustlers hung on to beat the HCYP Raiders Blue 5-4. Spencer Griffin (St John’s Catholic Prep) picked up the win working the first four innings, surrendering four earned runs on five hits and four walks. Jordan Tapley (Smithsburg) worked the final three innings and had three strikeouts to get the save.

Noah Tucker (Tuscarora) pitched his best game of the young season, a complete game four-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks as the 15U Hustler edged the Harford Land Sharks in game one by a score of 2-1.  The effort offset a great performance by the Land Sharks right-hander Scott Bradley who held the Hustlers to four hits as well.  Vaughn Parker (Thomas Johnson) had two of the hits and an RBI and Joey Schwartz (Smithsburg) doubled.

Parker pitched an abbreviated five inning complete game in the back end of the doubleheader, also holding the Land Sharks to four hits in a 12-2 romp.  The Hustlers found themselves down 2-1 in the fourth when they exploded for six runs on five hits and three walks and followed that with a five run fifth.  John Harding (St Johns Catholic Prep) started things with a line drive to left, Mason Machak (Middletown) doubled down the left field line and Jack Duffy (Urbana) ripped an two-run double to the left center gap.  Schwartz, Parker, Harding and Duffy each had two hits.

With the two wins, the Hustlers run their record to 9-0.  They are back in action Tuesday evening, June 4th at Governor Thomas Johnson High School against the HCYP Raiders Blue.  First pitch is set for 6:00pm.
