Tad Pole Interlock Rules

Posted by TONY YEE at Apr 12, 2013 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

13-April-2013

VMB/SBMB/BMB Interlock specific rules

Early season (exhibition) games.

All games between the start of the spring season and the playoff (in June) are exhibition games (just for the fun of it).  Teams will keep track of outs and innings played, but the final score doesn’t matter.  There are run limits per inning, so teams need to keep track of runs only for the purpose of knowing when the inning is over.

Playoff games.

There will be a playoff in June that is run like a tournament.  Teams are not seeded.  Scores will be kept for playoff games.  All other rules are the same.

Field set up.

Bases are 60 feet apart (BC  Minor rule 25).

Safety base at first base.

Pitching rubber is 42 feet or 46 feet (see BC Minor rule 31.03(T)).

Dead ball arc is 15 feet from the home plate. (see BC Minor rule 31.02 for purpose of this line.)

Dimensions are measured from the back (apex) of home plate.

Games

Maximum 6 innings.  No new inning to start after 1 hour 45 min from the start of the game.

Two run limit in the first 2 innings.  Four run limit in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th innings during.Only during playoff games there is a 10 run limit in the 6th inning.  Earlier innings will not be declared 10 run innings due to time limits.

Live pitching for the first 2 innings.Pitching machine for innings 3-6.(see BC Minor rules 31.03(U-BB for pitching rules).

An umpire will be supplied by the home team.  Umpire will call balls and strikes from behind the plate for the first 2 innings, then move to base umpire for the remainder of the game.

Teams may have 4 outfielders on defence.

Pitcher is positioned near the pitching machine.

Sliding

Slide or avoid rule is in effect (see BC Minor rule 24.01 and 24.03).  This means that players must slide or take other action to avoid collisions.  No head first slides.

Hitting

Batting team supplies pitching machine operator.

Swinging strikes – 3 and the batter is out.

7 pitch maximum to each batter when using pitching machine.  A foul on the 7th or more pitch is not counted and the player gets another pitch.

3rd strike tip ball caught by catcher - batter is out.

No walks awarded when using pitching machine.

“No pitch” if ball hits pitching machine.

Baserunning

Overthrows - Maximum one base on any overthrow.
- Only one overthrow per play
- Runner on third cannot go home on an overthrow.

Play stops when an infielder has possession of the ball and does not make any other play; the runners cannot advance past the base that they were going to.

Coaching

One coach, while his or her team is playing on the defensive, may be in the outfield providing guidance and training in the fundamentals of baseball.

Relay race

Games end with a relay race.  Home team starts from home plate and away team starts from 2ndbase.

BC Minor Rules that apply to Tadpole.

Rule 24.01 Slide or Avoid.

If a play is being made, or is about to be made, it is mandatory for players of all age groups to slide or make an effort to avoid a collision at all bases and home plate.

Rule 24.03 Head First Slides

No head first slides to a base or home plate are.  (Diving head first back to a base already legally acquired will be allowed.)

Rule 31 - Tadpole Specific Rules

NOTE: Modifications to BC Minor rules made for the VMB/SBMB/BMB interlock are shown as crossed out or ALL CAPS.

31.02 Playing Line

Playing Line is the arched line from the first and third base lines which is a guideline for the umpire to determine a fair hit ball. The playing line is the distance down the first and third base lines and from the tip of home plate and shall be fifteen feet (15'). A chalk line or other white material is then arched across the playing field.

A Fair Hit Ball is a legally batted ball that in the umpire's opinion will or could have firmly crossed the playing line, in fair territory, even if it is fielded before crossing the line.

A Dead Hit Ball is a legally batted ball that in the umpire's opinion will not or could not have firmly crossed the playing line, even if it is fielded. But, if the ball is in flight and is caught the batter is out and the ball is alive.
