Suspended Game v. Union

We will hopefully be completing the suspended game against Union sometime in the next 2 weeks.  This will most likely occur at Union's home field, located at Union High School.  Its a short drive, literally 10 minutes down Burnett Avenue into Union.  It will be continued at the Top of the 4th inning with us down 4-1.  Union is a good team, but so are we; last time I checked we put up 5 in the last inning against North Plainfield, and 8 in the last inning against Summit! Let's use this time off to work on our hitting, pitching and fielding.

Softball is a game that is played with your head far more than with your body.  If you know what to do when the ball is hit to you, the throw will be less rushed and on target.  That is why we practice fielding and throwing so much.  If the ball is hit to you in the outfield, get your glove up with 2 hands and under the ball so you can make the catch.  If its gets passed you, RUN after the ball, pick it up and hit the cutoff.  Our hitters need to understand that the ball is not going to be pitched to where their swing is.  The hitters need to adjust their swing to meet the ball.  If the ball is between the letters on the jersey and the knees and over the plate, you have to swing at it!  Please do not strike out looking..take a good hard swing at it. If its a bad call by the umpire..the coaches will deal with it.

Lastly and most importantly, Pitching.  Just do your best to put the ball over the plate during games.  If you do that by throwing hard, thats fine.  If you do it by throwing easier, thats fine too.  The most important thing is to trust the mechanics you use when you throw a strike.  Do it again and again..  Don't be afraid if our opponents hit the ball, that what our fielders are there for!  If we apply all of the things listed above and focus every time we step on the field, the 2nd half of this Villagers season will be a fun and successful one.

See you at practice this week!!! Enjoy your Sunday!!!

 GO VILLAGERS!

Big win at North Plainfield last night! An excellent team effort!  The last 2 innings had the best energy and defense of the season by far. Play hard like that every game and good things will happen. Game at home tonight against Union, lets be ready!
