Mustang Yankees

DAY 5 - Saturday, May 31st

Tom Brands, the wrestling coach for University of Iowa, doesn't sugar coat words. He tells his wrestlers, "It's you or the other guy. Win you live. Lose you die."

And that's how it was on Saturday, May 31st for 2 Mustang teams and 2 Pinto teams. A loss sends you home and a win gives you another day to fight.

In Pinto, the Yankees defeated the Mets in a nail-biter where the Mets fought hard in the 5th to keep the game close. In the end, the Yankees stood victorious - 8 to 11.

In the 2nd game, the Orioles sent the Phillies home with a 20 to 5 victory. Colton Sanford put his stamp on the game in the 5th inning with a grand slam over the right field fence. The O's 20 to the Phillies 5.

In Mustang, the A's kept it close for 3 inning, but were unable to hang with the O's for the full 6. The Orioles defeated the A's - 16 to 10.

In the 2nd game the Rangers sent the Dodgers home in the bottom of the 5th, putting the 10-run rule into effect at the end of the 5th. The final score - Rangers 15 to Orioles 3. 

The Bronco EOS Tournament kicked off with the returning champs, the dreaded Yankees, beating the fiesty Orioles.  The Braves beat the Cardinals 11 to 9 in the 1st day of action.

DAY 4 - Friday, May 30th

Pinto

The Mets bats were unable to get anything going against the Braves defense, despite putting the ball in play for all but 3 At Bats. The Mets move down to the bottom of the bracket where they will play to survive on Saturday against the Yankees. The Braves remain in the winners bracket with a 14 to 5 win. In the second game the Cardinals and Dodgers battled in the 1st elimination game of the tournament. The heavily favored 5th seed Dodgers put up 23 runs against the Cardinals 7. The Cardinals season was cut short despite a lot of fight from a very talented group of players and coaches.

Mustang

In Mustang, the Phillies were pitted against the Reds in a fight that could be likened to David against Goliath. The two teams went head-to-head and the Phillies hung hard with the Reds, keeping the game tied after 3 innings at 4 all. The Reds took a 2 run lead in the 4th, but the Phillies went up 1 in the 5th. The Reds were unable to answer in the end and the Phillies sent them down to the bottom of the bracket with a 8 to 7 win. In the sencond game the Yankees and Braves met in a match that would send one team packing for the season. The Yankees made quick work of the Braves. After 3 innings the Yankees led 9 to 0. The Braves put up a run in the top of the 4th, but the Yankees 3rd batter, Aiden Conway, sent one yard for a 3 run homer which ended the game with the 10-run rule in effect. The Yanks live to see another day with their 12 to 1 victory.

DAY 3 - Thursday, May 29th

Pinto

 An anonymous source has reported that Baseball Commissioner Victor Psimas is considering anabolic steroid testing for the 7 & 8 year olds. Psimas denies the report, but others have stated that the commissioner is dumbfounded by the fact that so many of those kids are cranking balls over the fence in Pinto. Last night in the 2nd inning of the match up between the Red Sox and Orioles, PJ Tone popped one over the wall in the 2nd inning to clear the bases and to put up the 5th run of that inning. Despite the home run and the 5 run inning, the O's still kept the game close early on. At the middle of the 3rd, the Orioles trailed by only 2, but in the end they couldn't catch the Sox. The Orioles head down to the bottom bracket, with the Red Sox winning - 21 to 14.

In the second game, the Cubs brought the same kind of pain to the A's as the Red Sox did to the O's. Every batter in the Cubs lineup scored, and as a team they only put up 4 Ks for the game. The A's were only able to score in the 1st and 3rd innings, while the Cubs defense shut them down for the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th. The Cubs walk away with the win - 18 to 6.

Mustang 

Coach Bobby Robinson's Orioles went on a tear for the second half of the season, winning their last 7 games straight. Finishing as the 5th seed they were evenly matched up last night against the 4th seeded Red Sox. The Red Sox jumped out of the gates quickly, taking a 6-0 lead after 3 innings. Coach Bobby rallied his kids in the 4th, putting up 4 big on the runs on the board to close the gap. They put up 2 more in the 5th and 6th innings, but the Red Sox held off the O's for the win - 8 to 6.

Controversy and more anonymity.

Sources close to the Phillies organization claim that Coach Cool was overheard at the end of the regular season discussing how he would sandbag his last game against the Rangers to avoid the 5th seed position, and thus avoid playing the Red Sox in their 1st post season game. The coach reportedly stated that he liked his chances as a 6th seed playing against the 11th seed more in the EOS Tournament. Last night the #6 seeded Phillies beat the #11 seeded A's 13 to 5. When asked about Coach Cool's comments, Coach Townsend from the A's stated, "He ought to change his name from Coach Cool to Juice Box Boy." Rumors have been circulating that some of the Phillies players are in trade talks with the Orioles, because Coach Robinson and Coach Boo are so much more awesome than Coach Cool. 

DAY 2 - Wednesday, May 28th

 In Pinto, the 7th seeded Mets made quick work of the Phillies. The Mets smashed the ball at bat, rolling it out to the fence consistently, except for Carter Richardson, who prefers to put it over the fence rather than rolling it to the fence. One fan was overheard asking, "Isn't that like his millionth homerun?" The Mets won - 25 to 7.

In the second Pinto game the Rangers steadily put up runs against the defending champions, Travis Younger's Dodgers. The 4th seeded Rangers put up 5 quick runs in the 1st and held the Dodgers to only 1 run through the 2nd inning. The Dodgers pushed hard toward the end, but not hard enough. The Rangers won - 14 to 10.

In Mustang, the Cardinals upset the Yankees. The Cardinals upset the Yankees. The Cardinals upset the Yankees. The #1 seeded Yankees shut down the Cardinalss for 4 innings. At the top of the 5th the Yanks led 4-0, but then the Cards bats started talking. Justin, Presley, Graham, Daniel, Jimmy, and Tomasi rocked the ball for 2 innings. Base hits and Yankees errors turned into runs. After 6, the score was tied. The Cards put up 4 more in the 7th. The Yankees closed the gap, but after a runner that was sent home got caught stealing for the 2nd out, their chances seemed to dwindle down to nothing. Justin Gardner dealt a strike to the final batter and the Cardinals upset the Yankees - 10 to 7.

In the late Mustang game... another nail-biter. The Cubs took an early, but small lead against the Rangers. After 2 innings the Cubs were up 3 to 1, but the Rangers chipped away in the 3rd and 4th to bring it all-square - 3 each. This was a hard-core pitchers duel. With Trevor Mason dealing for the Rangers and Jackson Tone dealing for the Cubs, the two pitchers bombarded batters with everything they had in their arsenals. In the end, at the bottom of the 6th with 1 out, Patrick Gresham pounded a line drive to right field to bring in the winning run. The Cubs win - 4 to 3.

DAY 1 - Tuesday, May 27th

In Pinto, the Orioles chances to stay in the winners bracket seemed all but lost against the Yankees.  Trailing by 4 after the bottom of the 5th inning, the O's rallied with a 9 run hit-fest in the top of the 6th to beat the Yanks 21 to 16.  

In the second Pinto game the Cardinals fought hard against the A's, putting up 5 runs in the first 3 innings against the A's defensive powerhouse.  It wasn't enough to keep up with the A's bats.  The green monsters put up 5 runs in all but one inning and came out on top - 20 to 7.

In  Mustang, the Dodgers and Cardinals ran a tight race with the game tied at 6 runs each after 3 innings.  The Cardinals opened it up in the 4th with a 5 run inning to beat the Dodgers - 11 to 9.

In the late Mustang nail-biter, the Braves and Rangers battled hard in a pitchers duel which had the Braves ahead in the middle of the 5th - 5 to 4.  Brody Phillips tied it up with a bomb over the center field fence.  The Rangers pulled ahead by 1 run by the end of the 5th inning and then shut down the Braves bats in the top of the 6th.  The Rangers won - 6 to 5.
