Phillies 13 vs Cardinals 17

Having mysteriously made their way down to the lower half of the bracket (against all odds), the Cardinals battled the Phillies in their fight for life. Touted by some as the best Rookie pitcher, Coach Howlett's boys only struck out twice, and Laake Farlow went yard for his first of the year. Despite the Cardinals intimidating offense, the Phillies were able to hold the highest scoring team of the season to 17 runs. Unfortunately, it was 5 runs shy of continuing the season.

Rangers 15 vs Mets 7

Coach Bolling and his Rangers are giving everyone something to worry about. With 2 wins and a loss against the #1 seeded Red Sox the Rangers continued their roll through the tournament by ousting the #4 seeded Mets. Tied going into the 5th inning, the Mets were unable to get 3 outs, allowing the Rangers to 5-run one of the strongest defenses in the league. The Rangers are now 3 and 1 for the tournament waiting to pounce on the loser of the Cubs and Orioles matchup on Thursday night. (The dramatic irony: this was written on Friday morning.)

A's 8 vs Mets 12

The Mets, notorious for their fielding talents, held the A's to 8 runs on Monday night, shutting them down completely for 3 innings, despite the fact that the A's were putting their bats on the ball. The Mets put up 4 runs in the 1st, the 3rd, and the 5th to hand Coach Rocky a loss in his do-or-die game of the tournament. After the game, an anonymous source was overheard saying, "I know it was a frustrating season at times for Coach with some close losses and some games where they just couldn't score, but Rocky did such a great job with this team. He always kept it fun, and he really helped those kids become better players -- hitting and fielding. He's such an awesome coach, and we'll be sad to see him moving up to Mustang."

Braves 9 vs Rangers 12

The Braves were eliminated by the Rangers in a Monday night loss. The Rangers took an early 4 run lead by the 2nd inning, but the Braves were able to tie up the game in the top of the third, and the tenacious quartet of Mounie, Wolter, Jones, and Johnson shut down the Rangers' bats for the bottom of the inning. The rally was short-lived, and the Rangers came back with 6 more runs over the next to innings to send the Braves home for the season.

Cubs 12 vs Braves 4
The Cubs eliminated the Braves in a 12 to 4 routing. The Braves scored early and held a 1-run lead in the bottom of the 4th, but in the 5th the Cubs put up 2 runs to take a 5 to 4 lead. The 6th inning saw the Cubs batting all the way through their line-up to score 7 and then subsequently hold the Braves to none. The Cubs will continue their trek through the bottom of the bracket, while the Braves season ends.

Reds 9 vs Red Sox 13
The Reds and the Red Sox battled hard for 4 innings until the Red Sox pitching rotation held off the Reds from continuing in the tournament. Strong outings from Bryson Dansberry and Deavon Poole helped seal the deal, as well as another home run from Caleb Pittman. This game ended in the top of the middle of th3 6th with the Red Sox scoring 13 and the Reds close behind with 9.

Cubs 18 vs Cardinals 11
Coach Cool's Pinto Cubs overcame the odds, suprising everyone with the first big upset of the tournament. The fan-favorite #7 seeded Cubs came out fighting with their bats blazing. They put up a quick 5 runs in the top of the 1st, and shut down the #2 seeded Cardinals in the bottom of the inning. The Cubs continued to hold the Cards in the 2nd to just 1 run, but then gave up 5 in both the 3rd and 4th. Notorious for blowing leads in the final innings, the Cubs' coaching staff made a few adjustments, and again played perfect defense in both the 5th and 6th innings against the regular season's highest scoring team, while scoring an additional 5 in the 6th. A note worthy performance was put forth by Coach Lineberry, dealing strikes from the mound despite an injured arm. The final score: Cubs 18, Cardinals 11.

Yankees 7 vs Orioles 10
In an unusually low scoring game for 2 power-house, hitting teams, the #6 seeded Yankees held tight to the #3 seeded Orioles in a defensive battle. Both teams opened up with 5 runs each in the 1st. The Yankees scored another in the top of the 2nd, but held the Orioles scoreless in the bottom of the inning. With the game tied in the middle of the 5th, the Orioles bats were able to squeak out 3 more runs, and then shut the Yankees down in the 6th. The Yankees now wait until Wednesday to play the winner of the Phillies and Cardinals.

Red Sox 5 vs Cardinals 7
The Cardinals kept the Red Sox scoreless for 2 innings with a 3-zip lead, until Bryson Dansbury rocked one over the center field fence for a two-run shot. Two batters later Caleb Pittman had fans on both sides of the field in awe of another two-shot homer that plunked the top of the portables (about 225 feet from the plate). This gave the Red Sox a 1 run lead that was short-lived. The Cardinals put 4 more runs up in the last 3 innings to send the Red Sox down to the losers bracket.

Cubs 4 vs Rangers 14
Coach Foley's masters of the mound made quick work of the Cubs, ending the game in four innings. Both Mason Rhodes and Aiden Foley gave up less runs pitching than they did hitting. Both scored 3 and only gave up 2 each on the mound. Final score: Cubs 4, Rangers 14.
Reds 4 vs Orioles 14
Alex Potter and Dominic Younger held the Reds to 4 runs, giving up 2 each. The Reds tried to get something going in the 4th inning, but were unable to stop Coach Lowden's O's from ending the game short with a 10 run mercy rule. Final score: Reds 4, Orioles 14.

Phillies 9 vs Braves 8
The #11 seeded Phillies trailed the #6 seeded Braves for 5 innings. Iziah Turner cracked a shot over the center field fence with his world class hitting coach watching from the home field stands. Some have said, "Coach Scott is the best there is." Unfortunately for the Braves, the Phillies closed the gap and came out of the top of the 6th with a 3 run lead. The Braves were only able to score 2 more, falling one run short, and finding themselves down in the bottom of the bracket.
