Manteca Chargers Youth Football & Cheerleading: History
1993 "Origin"After the 1992 football season (with a different organization and league), the founding families of the Chargers wanted an affordable football program and to avoid the travel to the Bay Area. They contacted the Delta Youth Football League and were admitted into the league. The program required approximately $20,000 to start and after three seasons the debt had been satisfied.

The Junior Varsity Football team makes it to the Super Bowl which was hosted by the Chargers only to lose to the Linden Lions.
Rick James comes to the Chargers with his staff after coaching with the Delta Rebels for several seasons.Chargers novice win the southern Conference.

Dave Taylor retires from the program. He served as Vice President of the Chargers and was J.V. coach for all but 2 of the years.
The Varsity and Junior Varsity claim the Superbowl Championship.

12-1 overall, 8-0 league, avenged the only season loss to the Southside Vikings 24-18.
JV Football Coach - Buck Rohles
12-1 overall, 8-0 league, avenged the 26-0 Superbowl loss as novice players to the Trojans with a 40-18 victory.
Novice Football Coach - Jerry Pirillo
Fielding a very young team, the novice finished 5-5 overall, 4-4 league and failed to make the playoffs

2000 - "Feel The Tradition"
The Junior Varsity finishes the regular season with a 9-1 overall season and a 7-1 Southern Conference record to finish as Conference Conference co-champions and receive a 2nd seed in the playoffs only to lose to the Rebels in the first round of the playoffs. Final Record of 9-2. Head Coach Buck Rohles, assistant coaches Brian Oden, Mitch Heinze, Mark Nelson, Don Rodgers, Dave Mendoza and Paul Lapitan.
The Novice Team finished with an regular season record of 6-4 and a conference record of 5-3 and a 3rd seed in the playoffs only to lose to the Tracy Raiders in the first round of the playoffs. Final Record of 6-5. Head Coach Jerry Pirillo, assistant coaches Matt Durao, Roy Bulen, Rick Nogeira, Bobby Fryer, Glen Johnson and Rick Keres.
The debut of the Charger Junior Novice program lead by Head Coach Jeanpaul Powel was quite a success. Although no scores were kept at this level, the young men performed admirably. A highlight of the season occured in the final game when the coaches stayed on the sidelines and allowed the boys to perform on their own. Assistant coaches were Curt Friggle, Andy Cunningham, Bob Gleason and Gene Neeley.
The Varsity finishes with a 12-1 Record and defends their Super Bowl Title with a win against Galt in overtime. The Chargers avenged their only blemish of the season (a loss to the Raiders) in the final game of the regular season by defeating the Raiders in the Southern Conference Title Game to place them in a position to win the Superbowl. The Charger Varsity becomes the first Delta Youth team to win four Super Bowls.
