Doyle Breaks PV Record at States

Posted by Lakeland Track an Field at May 25, 2012 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Senior Tori Doyle ended her career by setting a record in the pole vault with a vault of 10-6.  She broke her own school record of 10-3.  She finished 11th in the event. The rest of the Chiefs failed to make it to the finals in their respective events.  Freshman Cassidy Jenkins had the highest finish with a 9th in the 100 hurdles.
At Scranton Memorial Stadium, the Lakeland varsity track teams showed the league that Lakeland is on its way back to the top of the district.  The girls team finished second with 95 points and the boys finished 5th with 55 points.  The girls team was lead by the performances of senior Tori Doyle, junior Sarah Larkin, and freshman Cassidy Jenkins.  Jenkins started the meet off with a win in the 100 hurdles with another school record time of 14.91.  Her teammate Doyle finished third in the same race.  Jenkins also won the 300h.  Doyle closed out her district career with a gold in the high jump and a silver in the pole vault.  Jenkins and Doyle also teamed with Larkin, and Jordyn Tomcykoski to grab a 4th place medal in the 4x1 relay.  Jenkins finished off her meet with a 6th place medal in the 4x4 relay where she teamed with Ashton Boyarsky, Lauren Holt, and Dana Buskovitz.  Larkin added a silver in both the 100 and 200.  Senior Alex Miller ended her career with a 5th place medal in the 3200 run.  Boyarsky added 4th, and 6th place medals in the long and triple jumps.  Breann Clause-walton finished off the medaling with a 4th place in the shot put.  Larkin, Doyle, and Jenkins will be competing at States next week.  The boys team coming off a less than stellar 13th place finish last year, scored 55 points ending up 5th.  The underclassmen led the way for this group.  The 4x8 team of Tim Von Storch, Zach Krieger, Mark Arzie, and Nathan Morgan started off the day with a silver.  Arzie also grabbed a silver in the 800 and teamed with Gavin O'Donnell, Casey Albino, and Brandon Newberry to grab another silver in the 4x4.  Albino added a 4th in the 400m and O'Donnell grabbed a 4th in the 110 hurdles.  Dante Deantonio finished off the medaling with a silver in the shot-put and a 5th in the javelin.  The 4x8, Arzie, 4x4, and Deantionio will be headed to states next week at Shippensburg University.  Counting relay alternates, Lakeland will be bringing 13 athletes to the state meet.  Its most since 2007.

Post Season Party/Uniform Returns

Posted by Lakeland Track an Field at May 17, 2012 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

We will be having a post-season party on Tuesday May 29th at 3:00 at the Montdale Country Club Grove.  The usual cookout food will be served.  Kids are paid for by team funds, but parents need to pay $10 each to Coach Stephens in the library.

Please being in your uniform/warmups/spikes to Coach Stephens in the HS library before the end of the school year.  Failure to do this will result in bills being sent to your house.

The girls team, missing several starting team members, finished second to Elk Lake with 123 points.  Madison Harding, Brooke Estadt, and Taylor Flynn lead the way.  After a false start in the 100H, Harding blasted from the blocks and dominated the 400 to grab her first career league meet gold medal.  She then followed that up with a convincing win in the 300H.  In the last event, she teamed with Brooke Estadt, Karlee Vaverchak, and Katie Retzbach to earn a silver in the 4x4 relay.  Estadt finished off her epic season with a silver in the triple where she broke the school record by a foot with a jump of 32-10.25.  Taylor Flynn, throwing a javelin for the first time, won by 7 feet with a throw of 82-01.  She then set a huge personal record in the long jump with a jump of 15-0.25.  She grabbed the gold medal in that event.  The boys team finished 4th with 91 points.  Although they finished high in almost eveery event AA, they only received one medal.  The 4x4 team of Brandon Donahue, Mike Lowry, Tommy Dastalfo, and Collin Cooper won the silver running a 3:49.  The junior high season is officially over and the coaching staff would like to thank the kids for their hard work.  See you in December for winter conditioning.
