A New Beginning

A personal note to all the Seniors of 2012

By Randy Byers,

Houston 5A Baseball

For some Seniors, this Friday is the saddest day of their baseball careers, for some parents, its downright gut wrenching. For all it is a new beginning. It's truly not the end, rather a new beginning for all of our 2012 seniors. It has been a most enjoyable experience along the way, and while today you wish you could turn back the clock; you will grow to realize that you have learned life lessons while competing in the sport you love. You are two times as likely to succeed under pressure in real world. You have learned how to compete as a team. You have learned so much, and yet you just don't know it at this time. So for all of you who are singing your swan song tonight, cherish this moment and remember, you have been good enough to hang with your team mates for the past several years and you will be better in the future, better in life, love & happiness.

I admire each and every one of you for your accomplishments.

Thank you for all your contributions to our baseball community and I wish each and every Senior, nothing but the best in your new chapter in life.

Randy Byers

Tigers Making Headlines

Posted by Dylan Gaffney at Apr 22, 2012 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Tigers Making Headlines

4-23-12 H5AB 2012 / Insider Bat Team of the Week #9

According to H5AB, "teams are fighting and clawing for play-off positioning and some for a play-off spot period.  The intensity this time of the season is a perfect brew for big upsets and incredible effort from those trying to either; get in the play-offs, or improve positioning in the playoffs.

This week's Insider Bat "Team of the Week" has themselves positioned for a run at a tie possible for the top spot in the district with a little help.  Seven Lakes has clinched the #1 seed by holding the tie breaker but the Tigers could still equal their record with a Spartans loss and Tiger win.

The Katy Tigers pulled off 2 huge wins in week 9 defeating Memorial 6-2 on Tuesday and Taylor 11-8 on Saturday landing them at 10-3 in the 19-5a just a game behind 1st place Seven Lakes who is 11-2.

Congratulations Katy Tigers" ( www.houston5abaseball.com)

5-3-12 "Katy baseball wins game one 9-2 over Westside" by Thomas Lott, Times Sports Editor, The Katy Times

"Good pitching and great defense will win a team a lot of ball games at the high school level and the Katy Tigers defense certainly backed up their starting pitcher Caleb Thompson in their 9-2 win over Westside on Wednesday.  It also helped that the Wolves couldn't touch the senior pitcher" . 3-22-12 "Katy sets sights on postseason" by Jason McDaniel, Freelance Writer for Houston Chronicle

"Tom McPherson, who's in his 25th season as Katy's baseball coach, picked up his 600th career win in the second game of last season.  It was a big milestone that he enjoyed adding to his resume.  But he found what the Tigers did at the end of the season a lot more enjoyable". 3-15-12 "The Hidden Ball Trick" by Thomas Lott, Times Sports Editor, The Katy Times

"Zach Wilson made Conroe Oak Ridge look silly in the Katy Tigers 4-2 win on Thursday night.  The junior pitcher came out pounding the strike zone time and time again in each of his six innings of work".  (continue reading at http://katytimes.com/sports/article_8c37f09a-6702-11e1-93cf-0019bb2963f4.html )
