(Garfield Hts., Oh) After beating CVCA 7-1. Friday,  the Canfield Cardinals will face Twinsburg Saturday at 12:15p.m. at the Garfield Hts. Christmas Tournament.   Joe Geiser and Tyler Buchenic scored two goals apiece along with single tallies from Riley Emery, Steve Stanislaw, Ben Kline.  Max Siegle recorded two assists, while Geiser, Emery, Dan Johns, and Nick Carney each had one assist.  John Neher was steady in the net for the victory stopping 15 of 16 shots.  The Cards recorded 42 shots on goal.  The Cards need a victory over Twinsburg to advance to the championship Saturday night against hosts Garfield Hts.

Cardinals Stumble at Garfield Hts. 6-0

(Garfield Hts., Oh)  The Garfield Hts . Bulldogs beat the Canfield Cardinals 6-0 to open the Garfield Hts. Christmas tournament.  The Dogs outshot the Cards 24-18 and scored two goals in every period.  Canfield plays CVCA Friday night 8:15p.m. ,  and Twinsburg Saturday at 12:15p.m.  Canfield must win both games to have a chance to play for the championship Sunday night at 8p.m.

Cards End Weekend with Split look to Tourney

(Lakewood, Oh) After staying with Bay Village for a period at 0-0, Bay picked up the pace and Canfield was unable to follow,  losing to Bay 5-0.  Bay held a shot advantage after the first period of 9-6 but ended up with 44 and the Cardinals finished with only 12.  Bay improves to 3-0 in the GCHSHL while Canfield falls to 1-2 in the league and 4-6 on the season.  The Cards have four games next weekend at the Garfield Hts. Christmas Tournament.  The Cards will face Garfield Hts. Thursday, CVCA Friday, Twinsburg Saturday afternoon, and then either a consolation or championship game Saturday night.  All games are at the Dan Kostel Garfield Heights  Recreation Center.

Cards beat Garfield Hts 7-6

(Boardman, OH) The Canfield Cardinals exploded for 4 goals in the second period Saturday night against the Garfield Heights Bulldogs (2-2, 4-5) and hung on in the third period  to win 7-6.  The Cardinals were led by Ben Kline and Joe Geiser who scored 2 goals apiece and defenseman Mike Haurin dished out 3 assists to spear head the Cardinals first victory all time over the Bulldogs against 8 losses and a tie.  Other goal scorers for the Cards were Dan Johns, Max Siegle and Scott Sittig.  Nick Carney, Tyler Buchenic, also had assists along with Siegle and Sittig. Roger Geiser stopped 35 out of 41 shots in net for the Cards.  Canfield (1-1 Blue South, GCHSHL, 4-5 overall) takes to the road Sunday at Winterhurst to take on Bay Village in another divisional game.

Pucksters face big challenge this weekend

The Canfield Cardinals ice hockey squad has a big weekend with divisional games at stake.  Saturday the Garfield Hts. Bulldogs visit the Ice Zone, looking to improve on their 1-1 league record.  Sunday the Cards play at Winterhurst, taking on Bay Village.  Bay boasts a 6-0 overall record, and 2-0 Blue South Division record.  Canfield is looking to win their first league game against one loss.  The Cards are 3-5 heading into the weekend.
