Finals 2010 "STATE CHAMPS"
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!
I can hear Nana and Sydney singing at the top of their lungs!!!! What a game. It has been a long 5 years since Tarasai fired the puck from center ice in 2005 to win the last State title. So here we were again. CK vs the Goliath. South was undefeated and had already beaten CK twice this year. History.... Schmistory. The game started slowly with alot of careful defensive play. South had a few chances but Colleen's pads and glove stoped them all. Some physical play had both teams on full alert but nothing came from a few powerplays and a little rough stuff from Kelly the enforcer! The Zamboni swept the ice and we had only 15 minutes to play (so we thought). The girls had played well in the third period of the previous 2 meetings so the stage was set. Halfway through the third, still no score and the girls were getting tired. Then Sydney struck. A long shot all the way from center ice (dejavu) surprised the South goalie and the stadium erupted 1-0 CK! But South has been behind and they kept finding the open player in front only to be denyed by CK's defense and Colleen. One minute to go, CK gets a penalty and South pulls the goalie. With 7 seconds to go, 6 on 4 South fires the puck over Colleen to tie the game 1-1.
Overtime. Double overtime (again Dejavu). Jacoby with the glove save, pad save, blocker save. Exhausted, the girls just kept throwing the puck at the net and good things happen! One minute twelve second to go in the second overtime and Sakwa beats the South keeper again for the game winner. Wow! What a game! Congratulations girls on a fantastic accomplishment!
