Wildcats fall to Hounds in Shootout

The Innovation Federal Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to the Notre Dame Hounds in their only game of the weekend on Sunday afternoon at S3 Arenas.

After a scoreless first period, Sasha Malenfant opened the scoring for Notre Dame at the 1:08 mark of the second period before Abbey Arntsen tied it at 7:30. Maisie Kozak put the Hounds in the lead again on the power play at 6:33 of the third period, then Kyla Benjamin evened the score again with 8:47 left. After two scoreless overtime periods and four rounds of the shootout, Ellie Rawlick scored in round five and Jade Thompson was stopped by Juliette Gagne-Delaunay to give the Hounds the win.

Paige Fischer made 29 saves over 70 minutes of hockey as the Wildcats outshot the Hounds 36-31.

Swift Current (0-3-0-1) will visit Weyburn for a pair of games this weekend.

The Innovation Federal Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats were in Edmonton, Alberta for a tournament over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

The Wildcats opened the tournament on Friday with a 2-2 tie with the Thompson Okanagan Lakers, with Olivia Ferguson and Cydny Price scoring for Swift Current. The Wildcats then picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday with Evangeline Hill and Raela Packet scoring in a 2-1 win over NAX, and Packet and Hill scored again in a 2-0 win over the Lloydminster Steelers. Swift Current was blanked by the Edmonton Junior Oilers 2-0 on Sunday and then fell 3-2 to the Lakers in the third-place game, with Cassidy Peters and Mardi Wagner scoring for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats resume league play when they host the Notre Dame Hounds at 1:15pm on Sunday from S3 Arenas.

Wildcats fall 2-1 to Sharks

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats remain winless on the SFU18AAAHL season after a 2-1 loss to the Battlefords Sharks at S3 Arenas on Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first period, Evangeline Hill opened the scoring for the Wildcats at the 3:06 mark of the middle frame before Anneka Aspaas tied the game on the power play with 11:30 left in the second. Grier Slabaida broke the deadlock with 5:59 left in the third, and the goal would hold up as the winner as the Sharks took both ends of the weekend set. Jordyn Ottenbreit made 26 saves as Swift Current outshot the Battlefords 33-28.

The Wildcats (0-3-0-0) will host the Notre Dame Hounds in their next game on October 15.

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats dropped a 3-2 decision to the Battlefords Sharks on Saturday night at S3 Arenas.

Cassidy Peters opened the scoring for the Wildcats two minutes into the game, but Maggie Rauckman responded for the Sharks at the 3:56 mark of the first period before Alexie Palchinski gave Swift Current a 2-1 lead on the power play at 7:02. After a scoreless second period, Sarah McNabb tied the game with 4:29 left in the third period, and then Rauckman picked up her second of the game, and the game-winning goal, with 34 seconds left in regulation.

Amiyah Jones added an assist for the Wildcats and Paige Fischer made 24 saves as Swift Current outshot the Battlefords 32-27.

The Wildcats (0-2-0-0) host the Sharks again Sunday afternoon at 1:15pm from S3 Arenas.

Wildcats Fall to Rebels in Home Opener

The visiting Regina Rebels spoiled the Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats season opener this evening.

Rebels forward Stryker Zablocki scored five times lifting Regina over the Wildcats 6-1 at S3 Arenas.

The Prince Albert product scored twice in the first and third periods and added a single tally in the second frame.

Wildcats centre Evangeline Hill scored the lone Swift Current goal early in the third period assisted by Kyla Benjamin and Olivia Ferguson.

Paige Fischer made 27 saves for Swift Current in the loss.

The Wildcats will host the Battlefords Sharks this Saturday and Sunday.
