Wildcats beat Gold Wings 3-1

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats earned a 3-1 victory over the Weyburn Gold Wings on Saturday night at S3 Arenas.

Kyla Benjamin opened the scoring for Swift Current just 36 seconds into the game, then Abigail Manz tied it for Weyburn with 56 seconds left in the frame. After a scoreless second period, Kaylee Williams broke the deadlock with a goal 5:04 into the third period and Cassidy Peters added an empty netter late in the game.

Paige Fischer made 18 saves for the Wildcats, who outshot the Wings 27-19.

The Wildcats (7-10-1-3) face the Wings again Sunday afternoon at 1:15pm from S3 Arenas.

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats dropped a 4-2 decision to the league-leading Regina Rebels on Wednesday at S3 Arenas.

Alexa Kobley and Amiyah Jones gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead by the midway point of the second period, but Regina rallied with four unanswered goals to take the victory. Ashley Breikreuz and Kadence Dansereau scored to tie the game late in the second period while Stryker Zablocki and Cedar Swan added goals in the third.

Jordyn Ottenbreit made 30 saves as Regina outshot Swift Current 34-24.

The Wildcats (6-10-1-3) will host the Weyburn Gold Wings for a pair of games this weekend.

Wildcats edged 3-2 by Hounds

The Swift Current Innovation Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats dropped a 3-2 decision to the Notre Dame Hounds at Innovationplex on Saturday.

The Wildcats held a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Dior Stringer and Evangeline Hill. The Hounds then rallied with three unanswered goals over the next 40 minutes to take the victory. Felicia An scored in the second period while Sasha Malenfant scored twice in the third, including the game-winner with 9:30 left in regulation.

Paige Fischer made 34 saves for Swift Current as Notre Dame outshot the Wildcats 38-23.

The Wildcats (6-9-1-3) host the league-leading Regina Rebels in their next game on Wednesday night.

he Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats suffered a 7-1 loss to the Saskatoon Stars in their first game back from the Christmas break Thursday night in the Bridge City.

Halle Duchene and Payton Gabruck started the scoring with two power play goals for Saskatoon to give the Stars a 2-0 lead before Kyla Benjamin replied on the power play with 3:31 left in the opening frame to cut the Wildcats’ deficit to 2-1. The Stars then scored five unanswered goals over the final 40 minutes with Duchene picking up three more for a four-goal night. Haley Braun and Madison Buziak also scored for the Stars.

Paige Fischer made 30 saves for Swift Current as the Stars outshot the Wildcats 37-24.

The Wildcats (6-8-1-3) host the Notre Dame Hounds Saturday afternoon at 4:45pm from Innovationplex.

The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats beat the visiting Weyburn Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings 5-2 on Sunday in their last game before the Christmas break.

Evangeline Hill opened the scoring for Swift Current with 3:20 left in the first period, then after Ayla Klus quickly tied it for Weyburn, Raela Packet scored with seven seconds left in the period to put the Wildcats up 2-1 after 20 minutes. Alexkie Palchinski and Reece Hawkins scored in the second period to give Swift Current a 4-1 lead. Kaydance Ray cut the Wings’ deficit to 4-2 at the 11:50 mark of the third period before Palchinski scored her second of the game to wrap up the scoring with 35 seconds left in regulation.

Dior Stringer added two assists and Paige Fischer made 23 saves in the victory as Swift Current outshot Weyburn 35-25.

The Wildcats (6-7-1-3) return to league play when they visit the Saskatoon Stars on January 11.
