Three-point nights for Jerzey Watteyne and Sadie Keller helped the Swift Current Innovation Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats to a 5-2 win over the Weyburn Gold Wings on the road Wednesday night.

Weyburn opened the scoring 1:06 into the game with Brooke Bassingthwaite scoring an unassisted goal, but the Wildcats answered with Jade Thompson scoring with 8:03 left in the frame. Watteyne and Keller increased Swift Current’s lead to 3-1 by the midway point of the second period. Camryn Fuessel cut Weyburn’s deficit to 3-2 after 40 minutes, but the Wildcats would put it away in the third with a goal by Cydny Price and Watteyne’s second goal of the game with 7:02 left in regulation.

Paige Fischer made 13 saves for the win as Swift Current outshot the Gold Wings 41-15.

With the win, the Wildcats (6-3-0-0) take sole possession of first place in the league standings with 18 points, three more than the second-place Regina Rebels who have two games in hand.

The Wildcats host the Saskatoon Stars this weekend at S3 Arenas.
