Holiday Week Practice Schedule update....
North Jersey Youth Wrestling League 2011-2012 Season Recap
The Warwick Valley Youth Wrestling squad recently completed their 2011-2012 North Jersey Youth Wrestling League season in fine fashion; when all was said and done, the varsity squad had finished 9th out of 24 squads from the wrestling hotbed of northern New Jersey, and two Warwick Valley wrestlers had been crowned league champions.
The season-ending tournament was divided into three parts, a clinic tournament for wrestlers in 2nd grade and under, a JV tournament, and the headlining varsity tournament, with a total of 24 Warwick Valley wrestlers competing.
Finishing 1st in the clinic tournament were Ryan Silvestri (56 lbs) and Jack Mazzella (57.5 lbs), with Luke Posta (54.5 lbs) taking home a third place finish. In the JV tournament, Warwick Valley wrestlers took home three titles: Hunter Brown (62 lbs), Logan Schmalfuhs (75.5 lbs) and Danny Lindstrom (84 lbs). Placing second were Jordan Pinskey (69 lbs), Jeremy Mazzella (71 lbs), Andy Wiik (105 lbs), and Tony Patti (128 lbs).Third place finishes were recorded by Chris Posta (68 lbs) and Jimmy English (107 lbs), with Zack Bauman (70.5 lbs) and Pat Tully (85 lbs) placing fourth.
In the Varsity tournament, Warwick Valley followed up last season's 8th place finish with a 9th place effort, besting 15 of the strongest wrestling programs from northern New Jersey. Two individual champions were crowned: AJ Aeberli (123 lbs) and Nicholas Ferreira (116 lbs), both of whom completed the season with identical, undefeated 13-0 records. Placing fifth was Andrew Aeberli (85 lbs); 7th place finishes were recorded by Shane Williams (60 lbs), Lucas Wightman (96 lbs), and Thomas Kearns (130 lbs), with Bryan MacDougall (65 lbs), Tony Williams (75 lbs), Andrew Wierzbicki(102 lbs) and Gordon Brown (109 lbs) also wrestling well on the day.
Our varsity squad was one of the youngest in the league, with only three eighth graders, and many of our wrestlers are just beginning their careers. Their outstanding performance bodes well for what is quickly becoming the premier wrestling program in the area.

North Jersey Youth Wrestling League 2010-2011 Season Recap
Jefferson Township, NJ played host to the annual North Jersey Youth Wrestling League (NJYWL) season ending championship tournament this past weekend at Jefferson High School. The league consists of 24 teams from Central and Northern New Jersey, Warwick is the lone representative from New York State.
The event featured over 1,200 bouts in two days of wrestling. The Warwick squad, in its first year in the league, made a strong impression by finishing the event in 7th place. A truly remarkable feat considering the squad only filled 10 out of the 19 eligible weight-classes. Warwick qualified 10 wrestlers for the event and had five wrestlers place in the top 7 for the best pound-for-pound performance in the tournament. Taking first place were Evan Barczak (80 lbs) and Ryan Ferro, (96 lbs). Placing second was AJ Aeberli (102 lbs). Ryan Dal Pizzol recorded a 5th place (55 lbs), and Nick Ferreira took 7th place (109 lbs).
Shane Williams (60 lbs), Bryan MacDougall (65 lbs), Andrew Aeberli (75 lbs), Nick Sargente (90 lbs) and Cody Giedel (116 lbs) helped add to the team points total with strong performances.
The team also had 8 wrestlers medal in their respective weight classes in the JV tournament. Taking first place were Evan Gibbons (78.5 lbs) and Andrew Wierzbicki (89 lbs). Placing second were Hunter Brown (58 lbs), Trey Dal Pizzol (69 lbs)Daniel Lindstrom (76 lbs), Gordon Brown (97 lbs) and Tom Kearns (110 lbs). Logan Schmalfuhs (69 lbs) took 3rd place.
