Americans Outslug Chiefs 13-12 in 9 Innings

Malden, MA- John Jennings and Pat Costigan combined for 10 RBI’s when the Melrose Americans outlasted the Chiefs 13-12 in a nine inning slugfest at Maplewood on Thursday night.

Jennings (3-4) had two homers and six RBI’s and Costigan (3-6) had a single, double, triple, and four RBI’s. Noah Jankowski (3-5) chipped in with a single, two doubles, and an RBI.

Andrew Caulfield smacked two homers, Mitch Schroeder connected for his second round tripper of the year, and Ryan Noone had a 4-6 night with two doubles for the Chiefs.

Bobby Tramondozzi (2-0), the sixth Melrose pitcher of the night, worked the final three innings to get his second win of the campaign. Tim Dunphy and Evan Walsh worked for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs are off until Monday when they will visit the Lexington Blue Sox at 8:00 PM.

Malden, MA-Tufts University’s southpaw Lucas Gustavson (1-0) went six innings to get the win when the Chiefs edged Alibrandis 2-1 on Wednesday night at Howard Park on the Malden Catholic campus.

Gustavson (pictured) allowed six hits and struck out five. Another Tufts product, Tommy Leone, worked the seventh inning to pick up his third save of the year. The Chiefs turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the game, with two Alibrandis runners aboard, concluding with a game saving pick of a low throw by first baseman Mitch Schroeder.

The Chiefs erased a 1-0 Alibrandis lead when they scored their two runs in the bottom of the second inning. An error and singles from Miles Reid, Graham Smith, Kyle DeRoma, and Nick Valdario accounted for the runs.

Teddy Dziuba had two of Alibrandis six hits. Sean Sullivan (1-2) took the loss.

On Thursday, the Chiefs host the Melrose Americans at Maplewood at 8:00 PM.

Melrose, MA- Cam Monagle (3-0) struck out nine batters in five innings when the Middlesex Expos beat the Andre Chiefs 6-2 on Sunday night at Morelli Field.

Jose Paulno (3 RBI’s) and Andrew Mazzone both homered to pace the Expos 12 hit offense.

The Chiefs return to action on Tuesday when they visit the Reading Bulldogs at Austin Prep at 6:45 PM.

Malden MA- Veteran lefty Tim Dunphy (2-2) got the win when the Chiefs defeated the Malden Maddogs 13-1 at Maplewood on Thursday night.

Ryan Noone had three hits, scored four runs, and added a couple of RBI’s, while Joe Bova had a bases clearing double in the Chiefs’ eight run third inning. Mitch Schroeder and Adam Johnson recorded two RBI’s for the Chiefs.

Noone and leadoff man Miles Reid reached base in ten consecutive at bats as the Chiefs had eight hits and took advantage of 17 walks issued by Maddogs’ pitching.

Dunphy worked the first five innings and gave up just one unearned run while striking out three. It was his 52nd career pitching win in a Chiefs’ uniform.

The Chiefs are off until Sunday when they host the Middlesex Expos at Morelli Field in Melrose at 8:00 PM.

Malden, MA- Teddy Dziuba had two hits, including a homer and three RBI’s, to lead Alibrandis to a 9-6 win over the Chiefs on Wednesday night at Malden Catholic.

Juan Parra and Kyle Halloran each added a couple of hits and an RBI to augment Alibrandis 11 hit attack.

Veteran Anthony Delprete (1-0) went the first four innings to get the win.

Mitch Schroeder and Joe Bova each had two hits for the Chiefs.

Graham Seed (2-3) took the loss.

The Chiefs visit the Malden Maddogs tonight at Maplewood in a 7:45 PM start.
