A number of teammates ventured out to UC Davis for the annual running of the Woody Wilson Invitational. Despite falling on MV's spring break, the team was well represented in a number of events.
Leading off for the Stangs were both Boys and Girls Distance Medley Relay squads. The boys team, consisting of Danny Bartz (1200), Harry Nunns (400), Dustin Harris (800) and Clinton McAdams (1600) finished 9th overall out of 18 teams (all Juniors). The Girls placed 13th, led by Jr. Renee Lau's solid lead off leg. Rounding out the team was Sr. Claire Hoppens (400), Soph Kaitlin Kelly (800) and Freshman Nicole Aha (1600).
Up next was Jr. Lauren Anderson in the open 400, and she blasted a near PR time of 59.68, to finish 7th overall.
Jr. Kristin Hugo got into the 100 Hurdles as an alternate, and ran a 17.46 time for 19th in the crowded field. She also made it into the high jump, where she finished an impressive 9th overall at 4'10".
The open 800 had the most action of the night. In the girls event, Jr. Brittany Randall ran an impressive 2:23.82 to place 2nd in her heat and 8th overall! She loves that 800 at this meet!
In the boys race, Jr Donald Morgenson battled in front pack the entire way, and in the end was just off the first place position in heat 1, running an "oh so close" 2:00.11 time. He'll get that sub 2 next time! Don was 8th overall - a great accomplishment for this 'rookie'. In the second heat, Jr Dustin Harris ran his second 800 of the meet, turning in a fine 2:03.8 effort. He is also looking for the first 'sub 2' race.
Chris Krychev did not break any records today, and seemed disappointed with his meager throw of 57' 10"... which was still good enough for 1st place in the Shot. He passed on the Discus today.
Sr. Nic Quade competed in the long jump - 19'7" for 16th place, and the Triple Jump - 40' 10.75" (20th).
With the group anxious for "redrum" burgers after the meet, Jr Bhavik Kanzaria capped the day by running the open 3200. Despite sitting around in the stands for six hours, Bhavik turned in a great race, finishing 14th out of 28 in the fast field. He broke 10 minutes for the first time, running his first mile in 4:56 and coming back with a 4:55 effort to finish in a PR of 9:51.8.
Congrats to all who competed for the Mustangs. Next up - Livermore on Thursday the 19th and Phillips McCain on the 21st.

Many strong performances at this meet, despite the scoring outcome. On the girls side, both 4X100 and 4X400 relays take firsts. Sienna Brown and Lauren Lentz continue to burn through the EBAL, taking 1 - 2 in both the shot and the discus. Sienna leads all girls in point scored this season! Lauren Anderson is a double winner in the 400 & 200, while Stephanie Schafer and Kristin Hugo take 1 - 2 in the high jump. Brett Zorich battles Granada distance phenom Rebecca Paddock in a great 800 race - winning in a blazing 2:20.6 time. In the end, Granada's distance and horizontal jumpers turned in solid efforts that kept the Lady Stangs from taking the meet.
On the boys side, Krychev continues his winning ways with double wins in the Shot Put and Discus. Drew McAllister and Matt McGinn take 1-2 in the 100 meters, offsetting some of Granada's points. While area distance leader Doug Whichard of Granada powered his way to 3 impressive wins, Clinton McAdams and Danny Bartz (1600) and Donald Morgenson and Dustin Harris (800) ran impressive times to grab the important 2nd and 3rd place points. Donald and Dustin ran very strong 2:01 and 2:02 800's in pursuit of Whichard. The Mustangs scored solid points in the jumps, with Senior Captain Nic Quade taking first place in the Triple Jump and Long Jump, and Yannick Goeb grabbing first in the High Jump. Lance King bettered all Pole Vaulters, winning in a sold 13' 6" effort.
Next up is the huge Arcadia Invitational for our invited varsity runners, with Wood Wilson Invite at UCDavis following on the 13th. Then its off to an away EBAL meet against Livermore on the 19th.
