MV Track Team Email number 5

Posted by Heather Sheppard at Mar 7, 2017 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Dear Students and Parents,

We have a busy week ahead of us. LOTS of important news and deadlines. (Do I always say that? LOL) Please read this carefully.

1) Immediate Volunteer Need: High Jump volunteers are needed for this Saturday's meet at Dublin High School and no experience is necessary. The job is not difficult and you will be trained. Field events start at 9am. Please reply to this email and let me know if you can help out! It is a fun way to get to know more of the team and learn about the high jump.

2) Team Pictures: Picture day is tomorrow, Wednesday, March 8th at 3:30. Please have each student wear their uniform even if they are not purchasing photos. There will be a group photo and we want everyone in it. If you want to purchase photos please have them bring the Yary photo envelope and payment.

3) Team Donations: You can still turn in the team donation by check or cash. Checks can be given to any coach at practice or myself if you see me at a track meet. You can also turn in a check in the MV office. As soon as the webstore link is up I will send it out.

Dan Gabor Heat Sheets and Important Info

Posted by Heather Sheppard at Mar 2, 2017 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Important - athletes please know what heat and lane you are in prior to the meet, write it in your phone!

-  Please bring rain gear just in case

Heat Sheets:  http://diablotiming.com/results/2017-03-04/index.htm

- Athletes need to listen for calls and report to the bullpen when they are prompted to do so. Every year we have a few athletes miss their race because they are not paying attention. We do our best to get athletes into their races even if they report late, but there is a time when too late is too late.

- Please remind athletes not to leave valuables unattended in their sweats while they are competing and to not leave their sweats in the bullpen. As soon as we move one group out of the bullpen, we bring another group in. If sweats are left, we move them outside the barricades. It is a better idea to leave sweats in an area where other teammates are looking out for them if that is possible.

Here is a rough estimate of event times based on last years schedule

Girls' 4x100m- 8:40am
Boys' 4x100m- 8:49am
Girls' 400m- 8:58am
Boys' 400m- 10:16am
Girls' 100m-11:45am
Boys' 100m- 12:53pm
Girls' 300m Hurdles- 2:26pm
Boys' 300m Hurdles- 3:02pm
Girls' 4x400m Relay- 3:41pm
Boys' 4x400m Relay- 3:59pm
Girls' 1600m- 4:17pm
Boys' 1600m- 5:27pm
Girls' 800m- 7:09pm
Boys' 800m- 7:46pm
Girls' 3200m- 8:37pm
Boys' 3200m- 9:27pm

Dan Gabor Entries

Posted by Heather Sheppard at Mar 2, 2017 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Hello Mustangs
Visit this link >> https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Print/EntryAthlete.aspx?Cal=1960788&t=la0yp - to view the entries for Saturday.

Find your name and look for your events.

Field Events: I will e-mail you personally if your mark was in the Top 24.  Please ignore the field events next your name unless you are notified by me for participation.

There are going to be a 20+ heats for each event so you will need to bring plenty of water and food on Saturday.  There is no way for me to tell you what time you will exactly run.
You will check-in for your event, find out what heat you are in, then proceed to finishing your warm-up or start it if you are apart of the later heats.
Be ready for your event as they do a pretty good job of starting races, one after the other.
Coaches will be on hand to assist with any questions.

Good Evening Team,

Our team made a strong showing at the Super 7 Track Meet on Saturday! Check out the complete results here. All but the boys high jump have been entered into XC Stats also. Here are some pictures that parent Albert Borden  took. A few Highlights:
  • Boys Varsity DMR team came in 3rd
  • Boys Frosh 4x800 came in 2nd
  • Girls Varsity DMR team came in 1st
  • Girls Varsity 4x800 came in 2nd by a head. It was so close!
  • Katarina Stroud took first in the varsity triple jump
  • and Daniel Maneloveg took first and broke the meet record in the 3200m!

Itching for information on Saturday's Dan Gabor Invitational Meet? Read on for all the important info - Sign-ups close tonight.

1) Friday 3/3 Practice Schedule: There is no school Friday, May 3rd. Practice will take place at the regular time of 3:30pm.

2) Uniforms: All athletes competing in the Dan Gabor meet MUST have an official Monte Vista track uniform (top and shorts). Mrs. Coney and her team will continue distributing uniforms this week during practice for all those buying new uniforms. No need to purchase a new uniform if you own a prior season's uniform (a cross country uniform from any year is also acceptable). To get a uniform, turn in the participation form / uniform order and a check (or cash, in an envelope) at practice. The school office still has not posted the Spring Sports items in the webstore and we do not know when those items will be available, so please pay by check or cash if you are able. Important: if your uniform does not fit, please return immediately to exchange for a different size.

3) Track Donations: Thank you to all those who have contributed to our team! If you still need to donate Here is exactly how to donate if you haven't yet. I know our kids can count on each of our great Mustang track families to contribute at least something, if not the suggested amount of $245.. If everyone pitches in, we can do this! If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. EVERY donation, no matter how small, is absolutely appreciated and will help us reach our goal together. (THANK YOU AGAIN to those who've donated already.)

4) Spike Update / Clarification: The coaches recommend that athletes have either event-specialized spikes or "multi purpose" spikes. Ideally, athletes should carry both needle-style spikes and pyramid-style spikes (in either 1/8" or 3/16" size). Visit Forward Motion in Danville for advice on which spikes are best for your athlete. The big box stores do not have as much selection or the expertise.

5) Date Change: The home meet vs. Livermore has been moved to Wednesday, April 19th. Please mark your calendars.

6) Team Photos: Our team photos are scheduled for Wednesday, March 8thPhoto forms will be handed out to the athletes at practice so be on the lookout. They will need to wear their uniforms that day so plan accordingly.

7) Crab Feed and Wine Basket Donations: The Athletic Boosters Crab Feed is Saturday, March 25th at 6pm. See the for the details. We are creating a Wine Basket for the auction and we need Wine Bottle Donations. Please email Jill Stevenson jillstevenson@sbcglobal.net

8) Last but not least, Dan Gabor Invitational:
  • The last day to sign up is 2/28/17 by filling out this form.
  • Rain or Shine: Track meets are conducted in the rain. If there is lightning, officials will suspend the meet until danger subsides. Meet officials may or may not suspend discus, hurdles and vaults due to rain for safety reasons, depending on conditions.
  • Attire: Wear school-issued uniform. Don't forget your spikes. BRRRR! The weather forecast calls for a cloudy day with a low of 44 and a high of 60 degrees. Dress accordingly!!! You are not "too cool" to dress warm. There will be a contest for best warm hat with 3 categories (best spirit, most embarrassing, funniest). Bring a towel, blanket, extra change of clothes, etc.
  • Who? Athletes signed up via a Google Form (and anyone who wants to come cheer on their team).
If an athlete is sick or will not be able to participate after all, we need to know IMMEDIATELY so we can scratch them from the events. This is a long meet, and it will reflect very poorly on our school if empty lanes are assigned to MV.
  • What to bring: Plenty of food and water and money for the snack shack if desired. (Homework, etc.).
  • Transportation: There are no buses. Athletes may not drive themselves. Athletes need to be driven by their parents or find a ride with another family who is willing to take them. The team is not formally arranging carpools.
  • CostSpectators will be charged a small entry fee. (The team has paid all entry fees for the athletes already.)
  • Dismissal: At this meet, athletes will be allowed to leave after the conclusion of their events and an appropriate cool down, unlike at EBAL dual meets where attendance until the very end of the meet will be mandatory. We ask athletes to stay as long as they can to cheer on teammates and to check with a coach before leaving.
  • Program/Heat Sheets The draft meet program with heat sheets will be shown at practice on Thursday and Friday so athletes can check their event times and inform their families.
  • Who Was Dan Gabor? Read about Amador's Dan Gabor, his passion, his creativity, and the untimely end of his track career.

Go Mustangs!
