 On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, the Marist Varsity Track and Field Team traveled to Frankfort, Illinois for the Lincoln Way East Indoor Classic. 

 With limited entries for all upcoming weekend Track & Field meets, attendance at week day Track meets is real important for the future development of the TEAM. Marist had many athletes take advantage of the opportunity to compete on Wednesday with several outstanding performances.

 At the same time, Marist held out several athletes on Wednesday, in preparation for the ICOPS Invitational at Lewis University on Sunday. A limited number of Marist athletes were allowed to compete on both Wednesday and Sunday in different events at each meet.

 Lincoln Way East was an excellent host, and provided great competition.

 Individual events were scored on the following scale: 5-3-2-1.

 Relays were scored on the following scale: 5-3.

 Marist finished in third place at the Lincoln Way East Indoor Classic.

 In the Long Jump, Lincoln Way East's Cameron Carlee won it with a jump of 19'7. Lincoln Way East's Gordon finished in second place with a jump of 17'3. Providence's Evans finished in third place with a jump of 16'10.25. Providence's Piet finished in fourth place to complete the scoring with a jump of 16'7.75. Marist Sophomore Cesar Gaona jumped a personal best 15'8. Marist Sophomore Josiah Harris fauled on all three attemps. Marist Senior Tom Johnson III, Junior Noah Holifield, and Junior Darion Chew were scratched from the competition.

 In the 4x800m Relay, Lincoln Way East won it with an official time of 8:53.9. Providence finished in second place with an official time of 9:27.5. The Marist 4x800m Relay scratched due to an athlete scheduled to run in the relay, not in attendance.

 In the Shot Put, Lincoln Way East's Marchert won it with a throw of 46'11. Lincoln Way East's Eaheart finished in second place with a throw of 42'6. Lincoln Way East's Kruzel finished in third place with a throw of 39'11. Marist Sophomore Josh Harris finished in FOURTH place to complete the scoring with a PERSONAL BEST throw of 36'10.

 In the 3200m run, Lincoln Way East Junior Brett Gardner was impressive, lapping the entire field to win it with an outstanding time of 9:24.00. Lincoln Way East's Pulido finished in second place with an official time of 10:30.00. Lincoln Way East's Rodgers finished in third place with an official time of 10:34.6. Marist Senior Andres Castillo finished in FOURTH place to complete the scoring with a PERSONAL BEST time of 11:14.20. Marist Sophomore Tommy Kavanaugh finished in FIFTH place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 11:50.80. Marist Sophomore Tommy Wagner finished in SIXTH place with a PERSONAL BEST time of 12:01.60. Marist Freshman Gavin Carey ran a personal best time of 13:05.8. Marist Freshman Jake Phillips and Junior Josh Burns were scratched from the competition.

 In the Pole Vault, there was great sportsmanship, as all five vaulters in the competition train together at the Chicago Pole Vault Club on Sundays. Providence's Alvarado passed on the early heights and came into the competition at 9'0, but was unable to clear it and score. Lincoln Way East's Dylan Nola won it with an outstanding vault of 12'6. Lincoln Way East's Bendy finished in second place with a vault of 11'0. Marist Freshman Danny Enright and Provide's Pellegrini tied for THIRD place with vaults of 5'0. Enright cleared his first height of his athletic career, and scored for the Varsity.

 In the High Jump, Lincoln Way East's Cameron Cartee won it with a leap of 5'6. Providence's DiGiovani finished in second place with a jump of 5'4. Lincoln Way East's Hull finished in third place with a jump of 5'2. Marist Sophomore Carter Auer finished in FOURTH place to complete the scoring with a jump of 5'0. Marist Freshman Michael Golden finished in FIFTH place with a jump of 4'8.

 In the 55m High Hurdles, Marist Sophomore Josiah Harris finished fourth in heat, and in FIFTH place overall with a personal best time of 10.50. There was ten hurdlers in the competition.

 In the 55m Dash, Lincoln Way East's Tomczak won it with a 6.70. Lincoln Way East's Bianchini finished in second place with a 6.75. Providence's Wright finished in third place with a 6.8. Providence's Alvardo finished in fourth place to complete the scoring with an outstanding time of 6.9. Marist Junior Amari Watkins ran an outstanding time of 7.0. Marist Sophomore Nick Coccaro ran an outstanding time of 7.1. Marist Freshman Sam McNamara ran an outstanding time of 7.4. Marist Sophomore Cesar Gaona ran an official time of 7.9. Marist Sophomore San Flowers, Junior Anthony Johnson, Junior Noah Holifield, Sophomore Josiah Harris, and Junior Darion Chew were scratched from the competition.

 In the 4x200m Relay, Marist (Amari Watkins, Sam McNamara, Cesar Gaona, Nick Coccaro) finished in SECOND place with an official time of 1:51.80.

 In the 800m run, Providence's Bell won it with an official time of 2:13.60. Lincoln Way East's Trainor (2:17.4), Hahn (2:21.6), and McEldowny (2:22.2) finished in second, third, and fourth to complete the scoring. Marist Freshman Kyle Quinn ran a personal best time of 2:38.5. Marist Sophomore Nick Vallie ran an outstanding time of 2:38.80. Marist Freshman Lester Scott ran a personal best time of 2:55.80. Marist Freshman Luis Esparza ran a personal best time of 3:04.00.

 In the 400m dash, Providence's Vins won it with an official time of 56.2. Lincoln Way East's Hall finished in second place with an official time of 57.0. Lincoln Way East's Gustetson finished in third place with an official time of 57.3. Providence's Wright finished in fourth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 57.3.

 In the Triple Jump, Marist Sophomore Carter Auer won it with a personal best 37'2.5. Marist Sophomore Nick Vallie finished in second place with a personal best 30'1. Providence's Stafford finished in third place with a triple jump of 29'6. Providence's DiGiovanni finished in fourth place to complete the scoring with a triple jump of 28'9.

 In the 1600m, Lincoln Way East's Brett Gardner won it with an official time of 4:58.5. Lincoln Way East's Enright finished in second place with an official time of 4:59.5. Lincoln Way East's Taylor finished in third place with an official time of 5:03.2. Lincoln Way East's Pulido finished in fourth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 5:08.9. Marist Junior Peter Derdzinski ran an INDOOR personal best time of 5:38.50. Marist Junior Michael Dwyer ran a personal best time of 6:13.20.

 In the 200m dash, Providence's Junior Jerrell Wright won it with an official time of 24.0. Providence's Vins finished in second place with an official time of 25.3. Providence's Tavaros finished in third place with an official time of 26.0. Lincoln Way East's Alvarado finished in fourth place to complete the scoring with an official time of 26.2. Marist Junior Amari Watkins finished in FIFTH place with an official time of 26.5. Marist Freshman Sam McNamara ran a personal best time of 28.4. Marist Sophomore Cesar Gaona ran an official time of 29.10. Marist Freshman Lester Scott ran an official time of 30.70. Marist Freshman Luis Esparza ran an official time of 31.80.

 In the 4x400m Relay, Lincoln Way East won it with an official time of 3:53.3. Providence finished in second place with an official time of 4:12.8. Marist finished in third place with an official time of 4:26.8.

 On Wednesday, February 13, 2019, the Chicago Marist Varsity Men and Sophomore-Freshman Boys Track Team traveled to Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois for the Spartan Indoor Classic. 

 The Spartan Indoor Classic featured Central Suburban league powers, Highland Park, and host Glenbrook North. The meet was completed very efficiently, and had non-stop action on the Track, which put the crowd on their feet at all times, and created a fun atmosphere for all participating Teams. 

 A special thanks to Glenbrook North Head Coach Sean Brandt, Assistant Coaches Vincent, Kurtis, and Brown for hosting an outstanding meet. It was also a very friendly atmosphere as several reunions took place throughout the meet. Marist Head Coach Jon Gordon attended Glenbrook North from 1986-1990, and is a member of their athletic college wall of fame.

 The meet was scored only on the Varsity level, in an effort to provide non-stop action on the track. 

 The following point scale was used for individual events: 5-3-2-1, and 5-3 was used for scoring relays.

 The difference between first and second place was a mere three points.

 Glenbrook North won the Spartan Indoor Classic with 60 points. Marist finished in SECOND place with 57 points. Highland Park finished in third place with 39 points.

 Spartan Indoor Classic Varsity CHAMPIONS for the RedHawks included: Jamari Grant (Triple Jump), Amari Watkins, Tucker Miller, Antoine Davis, Kivonte Houston (4x160m Relay),  Brian Ferguson (Long Jump), Andrew Kerlin (1600m), Brian Ferguson (200m), and Jovan Marsh (50m dash).

 Spartan Indoor Classic Varsity SECOND place finishes for the RedHawks included: Carter Auer (High Jump), Andrew Kerlin, Luke Hortsman, Brendan Geary, Alexis Arreola (4x800m Relay), Tom Johnson (55m High Hurdles), Caleb Davis (800m run), Brian Ferguson (50m Dash), Caleb Davis, Andrew Kerlin, Alexis Arreola, Lucas Pennix (4x400m Relay)

 Spartan Indoor Classic Varsity THIRD place finishes for the RedHawks included: Jovan Marsh (200m dash), Alexis Arreola (400m dash), and Eric Teverbaugh (55m Low Hurdles).

 On Saturday, February 9, 2019, the Marist Sophomore and Freshman Boys traveled to Willie May Fieldhouse at Evanston High School. The fieldhouse was dedicated in 2018 to 1960 Olympic Silver Medalist and former Evanston Head Coach Willie May. The late Wille May coached Track and Field at Evanston for 45 years, and he won five IHSA State trophies, including the State Championship in 1979. Marist Head Coach Jon Gordon had known Willie May since he competed in high school Track, and raced in the same conference with among others, State Champion and future Evanston Olympian Robert Gary (1990). In 2018, Hall of Fame Evanston Head Coach Don Michelin invited Gordon and the Marist RedHawks to the Evanston Indoor Classic. In 2019, the RedHawks returned to Evanston for the second consecutive year.

 The meet was an outstanding experience for New Trier, Schaumburg, Marist, Waukegan, and host Evanston Township High School.

 Individual events and relays were scored on the following point scale: 10-8-6-4-2-1.

 Congratulations to Evanston Head Coach Don Michelin and the Wildkits on winning the meet.

 The Chicago Marist Sophomore TEAM finished in SECOND place with 106 points at the Evanston Indoor Classic, with victories over: 3. New Trier (104), 4. Schaumburg (73), and 5. Waukegan (6). The Marist Sophomore TEAM has a record of 3-1 to start the 2019 Track and Field season.

 Marist had Sophomore invitational Champions in the 55m Dash, 55m low hurdles, Triple Jump, High Jump, and 4x800m Relay.

 In the Sophomore 55m Dash, Marist Freshman Tucker Miller WON the 55m dash with a personal best time of 6.72.

 In the Sophomore 55m low hurdles, Marist Freshman Tucker Miller WON the 55m low hurdles with a personal best time of 8.22.

 In the Sophomore High Jump, Marist Sophomore Carter Auer tied for first place with a leap of 5'4.

 In the Sophomore Triple Jump, Marist Sophomore Carter Auer WON with a Triple Jump of 35'9.5.

 In the Sophomore 4x800m Relay, Marist Sophomore Kevin Bugos (2:28.88), Freshman Luke Malzone (2:32.70), Sophomore Tommy Kavanaugh (2:30.95), and Freshman Andrew Kerlin (2:21.66) combined for an official time of 9:54.47 to WIN the 4x800m Relay!
