On April 23, 2004, Northside Distance legend John Krumsee, set the school record in the mile at City Relays with an outstanding time of 4:37.42. Krumsee is currently competing for NCAA Division I Creighton, and came to the Mustangs IHSA Sectional Meet on Friday, May 19, 2006 to support his alma matter and witness a dramatic finish in the Mile. On May 6, 2006, Whitney Young Senior Eric Stahldavid won the City Championships in the Mile with a personal best time of 4:39.38. On Friday, May 19, 2006, Senior Joseph Terdik, dropped 16 seconds off his Mile PR, broke the school record in the Mile, ran the fastest Mile in the CPS in 2006, and won the second heat of the Mile at the Niles West IHSA Sectionals, with a personal best time of 4:37.20. Terdik's time would have qualified for State in the Fenwick and Thornton IHSA Sectionals. Before the race, Terdik borrowed new Nike Spikes from Freshman Simon Vechhioni to run in the race. After the race, Vechhioni had Terdik autograph the shoes. Joseph Terdik signed his name along with the new school record. After the meet Vechhioni was given a new pairs of spikes, and plans are underway to put the shoes used in the race in the school trophy case. In the same race, Patrick O'Connor ran a personal best Mile time of 4:48.7. O'Connor went out in 65 seconds for the first quarter, and was at 2:18 at 800m, and 3:36 at the 1200m, and had an outstanding kick to the finish for a personal best Mile time of 4:48.7. Joseph Terdik went out at 65 for the first quarter, and was at 2:17 at 800m, and 3:30 at the 1200m, and also had a great kick to the finish for a personal best time of 4:37.20. Both Terdik and O'Connor ran races that would have made Alan Webb proud (American National High School Mile Record holder). O'Connor also ran a personal best time of 10:16 to win the second heat of the 3200m run. O'Connor went out in 66 seconds for the first quarter, 2:24 800m split, 3:42 1200m split, 5:02 Mile split, 6:21 2000m split, 7:42 2400m split, 9:03 2800m split, and a personal best 3200m time of 10:16.2. In the High Jump, Eric Nelson was recovering from severe respiratory infection and was not able to compete. However, it only took a jump of 5'11 in our Sectional this year to qualify for the IHSA State Championships, and a trip next year to the State Meet will definitely be Eric Nelson's future. The opening height in High Jump was set at 5'7. Despite the difficult opening height, Wemi Jemine had 3 outstanding attempts, and almost made it over on his Final attempt. The 4x200m Relay, Brian Chhun, Santino Merino, Sam Vergara, and Geoffrey Edwards smashed the school record by over 3 seconds with an outstanding time of 1:46.10.
