Northside College Prep is open today. However, Glenbrook North High School was forced to close this morning due to the impact of the snow. Therefore, the meet scheduled for this afternoon was canceled, and will be re-scheduled this week.
Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon has arranged for the University of Chicago Throws Coach Anna Swisher to provide a technique clinic at Northside College Prep on Thursday, February 8, 2007, and Thursday, February 15, 2007, from 6:15 am - 7:15 am for the Northside College Prep Men and Women Throwers, complete with video tape analysis. Anna Swisher is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and a USA Track & Field certified coach. Swisher was a three-time New England College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) discus champion and three-time NESCAC All-Academic Team selection as a member of the track & field team at Williams College. The school record holder in the discus, Swisher earned a bachelor's degree in history and psychology from Williams in 2005. During her prep career, Swisher was an Illinois All-State selection in the discus and shot put in 2001. image
On Thursday, February 1, 2007, Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon received a voice mail upon returning home from practice from Whitney Young Girls Head Coach Bob Geiger. The Whitney Young Invitational has been canceled due to paper work problems and full details would be given by Whitney Young later. The meet will not be re-scheduled. Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon contacted Evanston High School Friday morning in an effort to find a replacement meet for Saturday. However, with one days notice and a full field, Evanston was unable to accomodate Northside for Saturday, but did offer Northside a spot in the meet for 2008. At approximately 10 am, the phone started ringing off the hook, once word got out that the Mustangs were looking for a meet to add to their 2007 Schedule. The Mustangs received several invitations from their IHSA Sectional rivals. A special thanks to Glenbrook North Boys Head Coach Matt Purdy for inviting the Mustangs to the Spartan Classic on Tuesday, February 13, 2007. A special thanks to New Trier Boys Head Coach Jim Casey for inviting the Mustangs to the Trevians February 20, 2007 Invitational featuring Loyola, Lake View, Northside and host New Trier High School. The Mustangs also accepted an invitation for an April 17, 2007 Outdoor Meet at New Trier High School as well. Practice will take place today at 3:45 pm.
The Northside Womens Track & Field is seeking an additional Indoor Meet to replace the cancelation of the February 3, 2007 Whitney Young Invitational. Although, the 2007 Northside Womens Track & Field Schedule features almost double the amount of meets compared to 2006, the Team would like the opportunity to participate in an early season meet rather than a Team Inter-squad meet in February 2007. Any coach who has an available spot for a Womens Team for a February Indoor Track Meet, Please contact Northside Head Coach Jon Gordon at 773-935-1617 or at Jongordon9@aol.com. Coach Gordon is willing to pay any entry fee at his own expense and the Team is willing to travel any distance. Thanks.
