CHICAGO MARIST TRACK AND FIELD

On Saturday, March 25, 2006, the Northside College Prep Mens and Womens Track and Field Team competed against 17 Teams at the Kenwood Academy Invitational. The Mustangs Varsity Mens Track Team scored 50 points and placed among the Top 5 Teams in the meet. The meet scored 8 places, with the following point scale, 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. We are still waiting on the Womens Track & Field Team final scores, and final meet results. Kenwood Academy was overwhelmed by the amount of Teams competing in the meet. Hopefully, we will have them by this evening. The first Outdoor Meet of the season had many obstacles to overcome. Several events were run out of order or combined without notice, and the 300m hurdles, 200m dash, Weightmen's Relay were not held at all due to the length of the meet. In addition, there were also problems with hurdle carts on the track impeding the runners during the Womens 100m Hurdles, and Officials were standing in the passing lanes during the the Women's 4x800m Relay. The officiating crew also disappeared early, and the Mustangs entire coaching staff was timing in their place at the end of the meet. However, both the Mens and Womens Track and Field Teams overcame all obstacles in their path to place in the Top 5 in the meet. In the Discus, Senior Chris Zysko put the Mustangs on the scoreboard early by placing 4th overall with a throw of 104'00. In the Shot Put, Freshman Benjamin Garcia led the Mustangs with a personal best throw of 30'2.5. In the High Jump, Freshman Eric Nelson and Wemi Jemine placed 3rd and 6th overall respectivally. In the Open Mile, Senior Bobby Ziegler won the race with a personal best time of 5:17. Ziegler took advantage of the opportunity to race in the open mile, and dropped over 30 seconds off his season best time, and will anchor the Mustangs Varsity Distance Medley Relay on Thursday. Lane Tech's Jerry Gonzalez placed second overall with an outstanding time of 5:22. Northside Sophomore Adam Swiatlowski dropped 21 seconds of his PR, and ran an outstanding time of (5:37) to place 4th overall. Santino Merino ran a personal best time of 5:50 to placed 8th overall. Medals will be awared to the Top 10. Sophomores Irfan Hussain (5:56), and Brad Eben (5:59) also ran personal best times. Freshman Eli Tullis had one of the biggest time drops on the team, 28 seconds, for a personal best time of 6:13. Tullis was followed by Tuan Lee (6:15), Simon Vecchioni (6:20), Spencer Rosenfeld (6:33), Faraz Khan (6:47), Walid Mohammad (6:50), and Coleman Gailloreto (7:11). In the 3200m run, the Mustangs one-two punch, of Patrick O'Connor and Dnaiel Kittaka placed 1st and 2nd respectively to score the Mustangs 18 points!!! O'Connor ran a personal best time of 10:28, and Kittaka also ran a personal best time of 10:31. In the 800m run, Joseph Terdik placed 4th overall with a season best time of 2:13.26. Sophomore Preston Buehrer also ran an outstanding time of 2:24. In the 4x200, Jose Choto (27.44), Christian Okoye (28.71), Geoggrey Edwards (27.71), and Sam Vergara (28.92), all scored their first Varsity points of the season, earning Varsity letters, by placing 7th overall, with an outstanding time of 1:52.78 In the Mile run, with no warm-up, Patrick O'Connor placed 3rd overall with an outstanding time of 4:54, and Daniel Kittaka placed 6th overall with a personal best time of 4:59. In the 4x400m, Joseph Terdik (58.99), Benjamin Garcia (61.50), Geoffrey Edwards (64.76), and Preston Buehrer (63.42), also placed 7th overall with a time of 4:08.67.
