Why Wrestle

Posted by matt charlier at Apr 19, 2005 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Wrestling prepares a boy to fight in the game of life. The wrestler is the one athlete that must meet his opponent and do battle completely on his own - no one can substitute, no time outs, are possible. He has no one to check, screen, block, or assist him in any way, there is no one to blame for his mistakes. When he wins, he must show quiet pride and modesty. When he loses, the responsibility is his. Wrestling is a man's sport. In other sports, when contact is made, they blow the whistle to stop the action - in wrestling, when contact is made, we're just getting started. No sport requires more sacrifice than wrestling. The individual, through self-denial, offers more of his character than can ever be explained here. It is something he carries with him throughout life, and through every trial, test, and tribulation. The sport of wrestling matches opponents as to size, is played on resilient surfaces, places its competitors in a controlled situation; provides officials at a 1:2 ratio, has officials always within 10 feet of the competitors, and stops action for potentially dangerous situations.

Dear Contributer: The Cary Junior Trojan Matmen is a youth sports organization dedicated to molding boys in the first through eighth grade into young men of character and strength. Wrestling requires these boys to rely on their own drive and determination to succeed on the mat, a valuable lesson in life. Each season we work with 40 to 60 local boys, building physical endurance and mental discipline so they can develop to their full potential. We encourage them to invest 100 percent of themselves in everything they do. Because we try and make an affordable program for our community, we lack the funding to do some important things for these admirable young men. Please consider making a donation to the Cary Junior Trojan Matmen, a nonprofit organization. Your donation will be used to support our continuing education scholarship fund, for those wrestlers that meet scholarships criteria. There are many other expenses the club meets yearly, uniforms, facility and insurance fees and the continual development of the sport and wrestler through clinics and camps. Our organization is run by volunteer coaches, that have been involved in wrestling most of their lives, and are active in our community. Nearly every year, we produce state qualifiers and state placers. Our method and style of coaching has also helped these young men realize the need and value of an education. Please look around the site to learn more about the Cary Junior Matmen and the club's philosophy. Feel free to contact any one of the coaches for further information. We hope you will consider a tax-deductible donation to the Matmen club. Your check can be made payable to Cary Matmen and sent to 28819 W Pitner Ave Cary, Illinois 60013 Thank you. Sincerely, Jim Nelson Head Coach email: info@carymatmen.org
