This set up a final matchup with MVLA.  Fury Wins Far West Regionals in Hawaii!!

The mighty Mustang Fury continued it's quest to be recognized as the top team in the Country by capturing the Far West Regionals in Hawaii. The Far West Regionals are made up of the 14 State Champions and 2 wild card teams from the Western United States.

After winning their bracket, the Fury defeated the Washington State Champs, Emerald City 4-0 in the quarter finals. Next, they met up with a tough Arizona State Champion, Sereno in the semi finals and defeted them 1-0. In the final, the Fury met up with their old rival from So Cal, WCFC. The Fury jumped out 2-0 in the first half. WCFC made a ferocious comeback and scored with 10 minutes to go in the second half. This was the first goal the Fury had allowed since before the Nor Cal State Cup. The Fury regained control and toughed it out for a 2-1 victory. Congratulations to the girls on an incredible week of soccer!!!

Fury takes Bracket D at  the 2008 Far West Regionals in Hawaii

The Mustang Fury opened with convincing wins over Alaska (6 -0) and Oregon (8-0) in bracket play at the Far West Regionals in Hawaii. The Fury compeeted bracket play with a dominating (5-0) win over the Washington State wildcard team for top draw in their bracket. Quarterfinals will be held on Friday against the Washington State Champs. Keep it up Fury!!

Mustang Fury Captures Title of 2008 State Cup Champion

Outlined against a blue- gray February sky, the Mustang fury rode again.......okay so I stole that from the opening line of Grantland Rice's famous story "The Four Horseman" of Notre Dame!  Nonetheless, the Mustang Fury capped off an amazing State Cup run by defeating their cross Bay rivals the MVLA Lightning in convincing fashion.  With the wind at their back in the first half, the Fury scored off a corner and then again right before half for a 2- 0 lead. The second half saw a lot of back and forth movement for the two teams with the Fury defense and middle presenting an impenetrable wall.  The Fury's possession game was as crisp as it has ever been against a top notch team. With neither team putting the ball in the net, the Fury prevailed with a solid 2- 0 win. With the State Cup win, the Fury is off to Hawaii in June for the Far West Regionals where they are predicted to do well. The championship game capped off a State Cup run that had the Fury scoring 24 goals and conceding none in 7 games. In the semi finals last week the fury eliminated the always tough Mustang Fury United 2-0 and the San Juan Spirits 3-0. In the round of 16 the Fury defeated the Mount Diablo Storm 4-0. Practice will resume at the end of March in preparation for the big trip to Hawaii.  Hats off to the MVLA Lightning on another great season.   Congratulations to all the Fury girls on an amazing season….so far!!!

Fury Sweeps Opening Round of 2008 State Cup!

The Fury, in dominating fashion scored 13 goals while giving up zero winning all 3 games in the opening round of State Cup. Next up in the Round of 16 is MDSL at Morgan Hill this Sunday.

Fury Is Triumphant At Blues Cup 2007!!!!

The mighty Fury saved their best performance for the last tournament of the summer by capturing the coveted Blues Cup Championship. In a weekend that not only provided some of the top competition in the Country but also 100+ heat, the Fury showed they are one of the nation's elite teams. To top it off, the Fury were down 2 players and a third would break her arm in the middle of the tournament. The fury opened bracket play with a well played tie over the reigning top dawg in So Cal "WCFC". The Fury responded with a sound 3-0 victory over the Force SC. In its final game of bracket play the Fury were tied by a surprisingly scrappy Utah SPARTA club. The Fury advanced as the 2 seed out of its bracket behind WCFC. In the quarters, the Fury overwhelmed the Las Vegas Premier team 2-0 in a dominating performance against a very good club. In the semis, the Fury controlled possession and scored early in the second half to edge out the always tough San Diego Surf. The finals pitted the Fury against WCFC. In a game with temperatures that reached 113, both exhausted teams fought hard and valiantly against each other and the heat. The Fury controlled possession for most of the game until WCFC put on a fierce attack in the final 10 minutes. The Fury's lone goal in the first half proved to be enough to emerge as Champions!

Fury Leaves the 2007 Surf Cup With a Disappointing Result

The Mustang Fury outshot their opponents in their brackets 53 -14 but only managed to convert on 2 of them. The Fury was clearly the strongest team in the bracket but did not advance based on the point system. After a slow start the Fury fell behind the Infinity from Cerritos (So Cal)and dropped the contest 1-0. They dominated all facets of the game against the Crossfire outshooting the Washington State Champs 30-1 but not finding the shot that would go in th net. The game ended in a dissapointing 0-0 tie. In the final game pairing the So Cal State Champs Delmar Sharks vs. the Fury, the Fury again dominated possesion and shots and managed to win 2-1. However, they needed a 2-0 or 3-1 victory to advance, thus it was time to head to the beach for a day of fun!

Fury Captures the San Ramon Valley Cup

In a tune up for Surf Cup, the Fury went unchallenged throughout the weekend racking up 19 goals and conceding none. The Fury matched up with the Santa Rosa Flash, San Juan Spirits (Silver), San Ramon Bellazure and the NV/San Jose Thunder in the final. This is the Fury's second Championship of the short summer season so far. The Fury will be departing for Surf Cup in San Diego on Friday.

Fury Repeats as Cal Cup Champions! 2007

The Fury outscored it's opponents 16-1 in 6 games en route to it's second straight Cal Cup Championship at Cherry Island this past weekend. The Fury opened up on Friday with a pair of 5-0 wins over Elk Grove and SCA. They completed bracket play with a 1-0 win over a surprising Modesto United team on Saturday morning. In the quarters, the Fury dominated action against a Santa Clara team who's only mission was to play the off side trap the whole game. Nonetheless, the Fury prevailed 1-0. In the semis against an always strong PAC team, PAC got on the board late in the first half with a goal to lead 1-0 at the break. Within minutes of the second half whistle, the Fury scored on a beautiful header from Alyssa off McKenna's direct kick. Erika followed up with a powerful goal to seal the win 2-1. In the final against a tough San Juan team, the Fury controlled possession throughout and won 2-0. The entire team played well all weekend against some of the top teams in Nor Cal.

FRESHMAN / SOPHOMORE YEAR

Student Athlete:

  • Create a soccer resume and cover letter to send to schools
  • Send out soccer resumes and cover letters to prospective coaches/schools (No earlier than spring of freshman year)
  • Send out soccer letters (or emails) that outline where you will be playing so coaches can evaluate you throughout the year.
  • Begin to research school’s academic and athletic programs via your counseling office, college web sites, and comprehensive sites such as www.usnews.com.
  • Begin to explore with your parents how you will finance your education.
  • Take PSAT’s.
  • Keep up your grades. Play, Play, Play.
Coach & College:
  • NCAA regulations do not allow college coaches to send out any information about their programs until September 1st of your junior year. If you mail coaches something as a sophomore they can only send you a questionnaire and a soccer camp brochure in return.
  • You may call or email college coaches as much as you like, but they cannot respond by mail or email until Sept. 1st of your junior year or by phone until July 1st of your senior year.
  • NCAA regulations do not allow college coaches any off-campus contact during your sophomore and junior years. When college coaches see athletes or their parents at soccer tournaments they are only allowed a “formal greeting”.

 JUNIOR YEAR

Student Athlete:

  • Continue to send out soccer update letters (or emails) that outline where you will be playing so coaches can evaluate you throughout the year.
  • Research scholarship opportunities (athletic and non athletic) (e.g. www.collegeboard.com)
  • Take “unofficial” visits (unpaid by the school) to schools. Talk to students, admissions offices, and soccer coaches. Take campus tours and begin to narrow your list of schools.
  • SAT’s/ACT’s & SAT II and AP tests.
  • Send out for college applications at the beginning of the summer.
  • Attend college soccer camps.
  • Keep up your grades. Play, Play, Play.
Coach & College:
  • September 1st of your junior year, college coaches are allowed to send you written (or emailed) correspondence as often as they like. All other rules remain the same.

 SENIOR YEAR

Student Athlete:

  • Register for the NCAA Clearinghouse through your high school counselor. Make sure your transcripts meet the proper admissions requirements and athletic eligibility for your schools.
  • Decide and set your “official visits” with five schools. You will have to send transcripts and test scores to the schools before you can visit officially.
  • Retake SAT/ACT, if necessary.
  • Take SAT II/AP tests.
  • Request recommendations from your teachers/counselors.
  • Write essays & mail applications. If your application is getting “tagged” by the school, meaning you will get a special look from the admissions office, you still need to follow the normal application process and meet normal application deadlines!
Coach & College:
  • Coaches are allowed to phone recruits on July 1st after your junior year. Coaches are allowed one call per week per household.
  • Coaches are allowed to visit the home of the recruit on or after July 1st. This will count as one of the three contacts coaches are allowed to have. On campus visits don’t count.
  • Coaches will try and set up “official visits” (where the soccer program pays for your visit on campus for 24 hours) during your senior year or perhaps even at the end of your junior year.

GOOD LUCK!   MARKET YOURSELF!   STUDY!
BE PATIENT
AND PERSISTENT!
