CHARGERS FALL SHORT
THE IMPROBABLE RUN FOR THE SPOTSWOOD CHARGERS BASEBALL SQUAD CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT AT HOME IN THE CENTRAL JERSEY GROUP II FINAL. THEY FELL TO A GAME GOVERNOR LIVINGSTON SQUAD AT THE SWAMP BY THE FINAL MARGIN OF 6-1 AND WERE 1-HIT BY THEIR BERKELEY HEIGHTS COUNTERPART. WILL BEARD TOOK THE LOSS AND FINISHED A FINE SEASON AT 8-2 ON THE MOUND. THIS WAS THE 3RD SECTIONAL FINAL IN THE PAST 6 SCHOLASTIC SEASONS. AS SHS FELL TO HOLMDEL, RARITAN AND G.L. IN 2001, 2003, AND 2006 RESPECTIVELY.
THE 2007 CHARGERS HAVE A LOT TO LOOK FORWARD TO. THE HEART OF THE LINEUP RETURNS AND THE NUCLEUS OF THE PITCHING STAFF COMES BACK AND LOOKS TO COMPLETE WHAT THEY STARTED THIS SEASON. SHS SAYS GOODBYE TO 5 SENIORS INCLUDING ROB THURING, BRYAN MAY, MARK FAHY, DANNY SAVAGE, AND GARRETT ANDREN.

2006 GREATER MIDDLESEX CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
CHARGERS GAIN TOURNAMENT'S 2ND SEED
BY THE GURU
If the regular season is any indication of things to come, then the GMC Tournament should be a fun ride for the 2006 Spotswood Chargers. However, this year's 2 seed has its' inherent pitfalls, such as possibly having to navigate through 4 Red Division teams to capture the crown, or even having to beat a hard hitting Kennedy squad, who is in the bottom bracket with SHS.
The Chargers have byes through the first two rounds as the Blue Division Champs. They will take on the winner of the #18 East Brunswick/#15 Carteret matchup in the 2nd preliminary round. That game is in Carteret on Wednesday. The winner visits Spotswood on Friday.
East Brunswick and Spotswood tied 9 days ago at Trenton Waterfront Park 5-5. Carteret was scheduled to play SHS, but the game was postponed due to rain. The 3 seed in the bottom half with Spotswood is Edison, one of the early season favorites and the all-time winningest GMCT squad.
It is tournament time and handicapping this year's slate is next to impossible. The tournament looks to be wide open, with South Brunswick being the only prohibitive favorite at the 1 seed. There are no easy outs, especially when you consider the defending champion EB Bears at the 18, last year's runner-up and 2004 Champ St. Joe's falling to 5, and early season favorite Bishop Ahr at an 11.
It is the highest seeding in tournament history for the Chargers. Hopefully, the lessons learned in last years' first round loss to Old Bridge is still fresh and serving as motivation for this years run. As a 12 in 2005, the Knights knocked off the 5th seeded Chargers with a 3-run rally in the 7th, busting up the Charger coming out party earlier than expected, but hey this is baseball...........ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!
