Boys Baseball Top 20 4/26/05 1-St. Joe (Mon.) (10-0) Last week: 1 Justin Figart threw a five-hitter in a victory over No. 11 Westwood when Steve Casares knocked in three runs. Earlier in the week, Dave Schwartz had three hits, including a homer, and five RBI in a victory over rival Don Bosco Prep. 2-Christian Brothers (10-0) Last: 3 Arguably the premier defensive catcher in the Shore Conference, senior Phil Cahill keeps runners close to the bag and comforts the Lincroft school’s deep pitching staff with his confidence behind the plate. 3-Hillsborough (8-0) Last: 4 The Somerset County school, led by slugger Tim Fedroff (.666 bavg., 20 RBI), puts its unbeaten record on the line today at 3:45 p.m. when it plays host to No. 10 Immaculata at Memorial Field in Hillsborough. 4-Seton Hall Prep (10-1) Last: 5 Infielder Rob Vogt (.529), outfielder Terrence Dolan (.520, nine RBI) and catcher Bobby Dombrowski (.485, two HRs, 16 RBI) have provided the firepower that backs an excellent rotation for the West Orange school. 5-Bishop Eustace (11-1) Last: 2 Righty Rob Traister improved to 2-1 during a 4-1 week that included a trip to Pennsylvania, where the Pennsauken school beat St. Joseph, 8-4, and fell to highly regarded Malvern Prep, 9-8. It faces undefeated Seneca today. 6-Holy Cross (10-0) Last: 8 Mike Kondrath and John Diamond each picked up a victory in a 5-0 week as the Delran school scored decisive decisions over Bordentown and Kennedy-Kendrick of Pennsylvania. 7-St. Peter’s Prep (11-0) Last: 10 Chuck Comprelli, a senior left-hander, raised his record to 4-0 for the Jersey City school with an 11-strikeout, fivehit, two-walk performance in a 7-2 victory over rival Bayonne. 8-Toms River North (8-2) Last: 11 Nick Petito produced his second straight four-inning, no-hit relief outing during an 18-6 victory over Jackson. 9-West Deptford (8-0) Last: 12 Derek Scirrotto has shown a penchant for power and pitchers Justin Hilt (4-0) and Dave Guiliani (2-0) lead the staff. The Group 2 squad gave Sterling its first loss in dominating fashion, 15-2. 10-Immaculata (7-1-1) Last: NR The defending Somerset County Tournament champion from Somerville makes its Top 20 debut behind shortstop Nick Pecora and ace Nick Panzarella following an eightinning, 7-6 victory over No. 12 Gloucester Catholic. 11-Westwood (11-1) Last: 13 The Bergen County team hit 13 homers in its last five games, with Colin Hourigan and Chris Psihoules (27 RBI) doing most of the damage. It hit more homers last week than it did in all of 2004. 12-Gloucester C (12-2) Last: 6 A 5-1 week featured a 5-3 victory over Steinert one day after a 7-6 loss to No. 10 Immaculata. Left-hander Zach Braddock (1-1) and his mates then left for Florida and picked up four lopsided victories. 13-Hudson Catholic (12-1) Last: NR Junior Rubiel Mercado and sophomore Damian Seguen have a combined 9-0 record, and along with junior Rich Nazario and freshman Jules Diaz have yielded just one firstinning run for the Bayonne squad. 14-Memorial (12-1) Last: 7 Jesus Castano delivered with the bat in three games last week, hitting .714 with four doubles and five RBI to help the West New York club go 2-1. 15-Nutley (9-1) Last: 15 Catcher Mike Maffucci highlighted a 3-0 week by hitting two long home runs in a 15-1 victory over Paramus Catholic. Right-hander Nick Moscara (3-0) picked up the victory in a 2-1 decision over heated rival Belleville. 16-St. Joe’s (Met.) (13-2) Last: 18 Chris Parenti and Matt Owens each pitched a shutout to help the team run its winning streak to 11 games. 17-Kearny (10-1) Last: NR Senior first baseman Mike Silvestre and junior third baseman Rafael Azcona have performed well defensively and Azcona singled across Silvestre with the winning run in a 3-2 victory over Roxbury, the team’s eighth straight triumph. 18-Demarest (9-1) Last: NR Rich Guillod (21 RBI) and Kris Dooly (18 RBI) have been clutch run producers for the Bergen County power. Dooly had seven RBI in a victory over Fair Lawn. 19-Monmouth Reg. (8-3) Last: NR Catcher Mike Daly leads the Shore Conference in stolen bases (12) and sets a strong target for Seton Hallbound right-hander Keith Cantwell (5-1, 53 strikeouts, 10 walks, 32 innings). 20-Randolph (9-2) Last: NR It belted seven home runs in a 26-16 victory over Morris Knolls, including three by All-Morris County third baseman Eric Zaziski.
