CHARGERS WIN BATTLE OF GMC LEADERS

Robby Drako belted a two-run homer and Steve Abbott knocked in a two-run single as the Spotswood High School baseball team defeated Carteret 8-3 yesterday in a battle of Greater Middlesex Conference division leaders.

The Blue Division-leading Chargers knocked off their White Division counterparts behind 5 1/3 innings of strong pitching from senior lefty Steve Curry (4-0). After the Ramblers jumped out to a 1-0 lead, the Chargers scored four times in the second to take the lead for good.

Abbott finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Brian Mliczek went 3-for-3 with a run scored for the Ramblers.
