News and Announcements

DEA will be heading back to the finals for the second time in two seasons. DEA shut out the Southern division 2-0 on Sunday and will be heading to Stoneham, MA for the final match. DEA will now be matched up with the Marion-Mariners. This is the same team DEA beat in the finals last season. Sundays game was extremely hot and DEA did not have a full squad. Sportsmans field was looking very large on this day. DEA had to play smart and that they did. DEA held possession of the ball and pick and chose their runs. The wide field and the DEA passing game would take its toll on the less fit Newton Spurs. However, it would not be until the late in the second half until DEA would break the scoreless game open. Both teams would ring the cross bar in the first half but there would be no scoring. The second half is when DEA started to show its fitness. They knocked the ball out wide and continued to pressure Newton. About midway through the second half, Jeff Guild would receive the ball out on the left sideline. He would carry the ball in towards the corner. Jeff would see Jim McCall on the far side. Jeff hit a great cross into the box. The ball would be headed by a Newton defender past his own keeper for a DEA Goal. This took a lot of the wind out of the Newton side and sparked Bedford. DEA would continue to pressure. with about 10 minutes left, John Guild would flick the ball on to Jim McCall, who was streaking down the right side. Jim would beat one defender and neatly chip the ball over the keeper for the insurance tally. The Bedford defense shut out the rest of the Newton attempts and earned the shut out. Jim Goddard was solid in the net as usual. DEA heads to Stoneham for the finals at 8:30 AM on Sunday at the Broadway Fields. See locations for a map and directions. DEA will look to beat the Mariners for the second time in a row in the finals. Go DEA !!!
Like the Jefferson's, we're "moving on up". Next stop Division 5. With the single goal of winning the last game to guarantee the division title, team DEA rolled over the competition. A crew of 14 showed up to play on the postage stamp field hosted by Burlington. With a lack of defenders for the game, the team needed to be all about the offense. Power house Nick Masci (challenged by the GM)led the way by scoring the first goal after stealing the ball from a defender then knocking one past the keeper. Nick, after clanging the crossbar and sending several shots just wide, also scored the teams 4th goal when he was tripped up in the penalty area, then putting the PK away. The second goal of the game came on a pass from Jim McCall to John Guild with a nice shot into the corner. Nick, again burning up the offense, sent a nice field changing wide ball to Jim McCall who shoots a high upper corner 35 yarder over the frozen keeper. Jeff Guild, not to be outdone on the day, took 2 goals in the second half with both low hard inside shots past the keeper. The first one being feed by George, then the next by Stan. Burlington managed to squeeze one in somewhere in there, but they were outmatched on this day. Having to do some defensive duties for the game were John V. playing a great controlling game at Stopper. Mitch Green controlling the D, as always, with solid help from Sean, Doug, and Bruce in the back field. Final score 6 - 1 GM Notes: A great finish to a great regular season. DEA scored a record 44 goals in the 10 game season and only gave up 14 for a whopping +30 Goal Differential. This is a new DEA record and led the League by far. DEA will look to bring this offensive fire power into the first round of the playoffs, this Sunday in Bedford at 10 AM. DEA will take on the runner up of the southern division, who has yet to be determined. It will either be Newton or Franklin who battle each other later this evening. Which ever team it is, they had better bring their "A" team to play DEA or suffer the consequences.

The DEA Bedford Masters had a productive Sunday and Monday, winning back to back matches and clinching a playoff berth in the NEOTH Soccer League. Both matches were played at the new Hampshire Dome in Milford, NH. In the first match, DEA crushed Woburn 6-1. DEA outpowered Gloucester 7-1 in the second match on Monday night. The combined 13 goals pushed DEA to nearly match their impressive goal for/ goals against ratio of last season with a game still to play. DEA has racked up 38 goals scored, lead by Jim McCall and Jeff Guild with 7 each. On the other side Bedford has only let up 13 goals on the season with Great Goal tending by Jim Goddard and Jim Kellogg along with impressive defense led by Mitch Green, Ray Luscinski, Mark Major, Sean Kelly and Yes.... making his first appearance on Sunday, Paul Cote. DEA now has a +25 Goal differential that leads the league. In the first match with Woburn, DEA started out cautious but controlled the possession of the ball. About 10 minutes in, Bill Jean took a pass from George and beat the Woburn keeper on a low shot to the right. George, was enjoying the indoor facility, as he would score the next two goals in a row. The first off a through ball from Mark Major. The next one off a nice feed from Rick Plichta. Jeff Guild, who is trying to take the goal scoring crown from Captain McCall, netted the next tally from a feed from Brother John. DEA went into the half with a commanding 4-0 lead. The second half continued with DEA domination. John Valickus, who controlled the midfield, would get the next goal, finishing a great pass from Nick Masci. Woburn would manage to spoil Goddards shut out as they would net one on a defensive miscue. Jeff Guild would score his second to finish the scoring for DEA. Jeff took a feed from Johnnie V and hit the far left side netting to give DEA the 6-1 victory. The Next game featured the Gloucester mates, who travelled all the way from the coast on a Monday night. Bedford's Nick Masci was not impressed with the effort and proceeded to score the first two goals and assist on the next three. The Hampshire Dome is very good to Nick. Anyway, Bedford started early and strong. Nick took a good pass from Captain Jim, and sank it for DEA's 1-0 early lead. Nick would score the next goal about 15 minutes later, converting a Bill Jean pass into a DEA point. Bedford road the 2-0 lead into the half. The quickness of the turf field took its toll on the Gloucester team, as they began to pack it into the middle of the pitch. This opened up the flanks for DEA and they took advantage. Bill Jean would net one a rebound shot from Nick. Nick would then send Jeff Guild down the right side. Jeff would not miss on this one and Bedford was rolling with a 4-0 lead. Jim Pellerin would take some hints from DEA's GM, who was on site, and stay out wide right. Pelleringee would find himself on the good end of a Nick Masci cross. Jim would easily pop it into the vacated right side of the net. Jeff Guild would get his second tally of the night on a great pass from Stan. Once again, Jim Goddard would loose his shut out on a slight mix up in the back. Goddard, who was trying to hit the roof with his punts all night, would pick up a yellow card, for an undisclosed foul. DEA would shuffle some players around and give some defenders a chance at forward. Mark Major would just miss converting on a goal.....one you dream about.... David Poole would be on the receiving end of a Rick Plichta pass. David would beat his defender and the Gloucester keeper for the final goal... Poole would give a small defenders celebration and return to his place. The referee would blow the whistle and DEA would earn a solid 7-1 victory. The Third half was played at Shorty's in Bedford. DEA's GM was there and very satisfied on the teams performance over the last 6 games. DEA sits in first place now with one game to play. This Sunday they travel to Burlington that could decide the division champion and who moves up to D5 in the fall. Burlington has two games in hand not including the game with DEA. This means that they will have two games this week and the final with DEA this Sunday. Game time this Sunday is 9:00 AM in Burlington. Lets be on time with a good squad.
