SWITCH SUITS WEST END

Posted by Roy Gill at Nov 21, 2015 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Montrose Roselea 0-3 Forfar West End

Roselea made it six games without a victory after a crushing defeat to Angus rivals Forfar West End.

Roselea went into the game full of optimism after show good showings of late, and were confident of getting some points to take them out of the relegation zone with many teams around them in the league were on Scottish cup duty, but an uncharacteristic lethargic performance ensured they remain there for another week at least.

Roselea made one change from last week with Taylor coming in and a small reshuffle at the back to try combat the busy front working players of the away team.

First chance fell to Forfar in the sixth minute when Hart got his head to a dangerous cross but his effort went over.

Clark turned well in the box but his strike was both high and wide of the target.

Forfar had another chance after half an hour when Hart was again on to a cross but he could only flick it wide after being put under pressure by Rae and Whyte.

Roselea did come into the game towards the end of the half forcing a couple of corners but neither amounted to anything that troubled the away keeper.

West End scored the opening goal that looked to have been coming from the start when Clark turned well in the middle of the park and laid the ball to FULLERTON who slotted past McLeod in the home goal.

Half Time: Montrose Roselea 0 Forfar West End 1

Roselea started the second half much better and Mowatt was unlucky not to get an equaliser after 48 minutes when Burns saved well.

Greig replaced Campbell on the hour mark.

Forfar extended their lead with 15 minutes to go. PETRIE, having just come on as a sub was on hand to smash home following some good work by Ramsay.

Roselea went two up front in the hope of getting something from the match as Smith replaced Mowatt and Collier was pushed on.

The away team made sure of the three points with minutes remaining. PETRIE was again on the score sheet as he finished off a superb flowing move down the left wing.

Collier tried for a consolation at the death with a speculative effort but his effort flew well over the bar.

Montrose Roselea. McLeod, Rae, Taylor, Sturrock, Whyte, McDowell, Campbell(Greig), Collier, Watson, Mowatt(Smith), Cruickshank

The defeat moved Roselea to the second bottom place in the League however there is still plenty of time and fixtures for the team to correct matters. They get a chance to make quick amends for the poor performance when they travel to the Grangemouth Stadium to face Falkirk JFC who are sitting in 7th with 6 more points in Roselea who have a game in hand.

BLUEBELL END UNBEATEN HOME RUN

MONTROSE ROSELEA V DUNDONALD BLUEBELL

MCBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

SAT NOV 14TH 2015

Roselea finally lost their undefeated league home record to an impressive showing by Dundonald.

Dundonald created the first chance of the match when Anthony beat a man to create space for a shot but his effort went wide of the post.

The home team took an unexpected lead after 17 minutes. The ball was played up the park by keeper McLeod and as an away defender tried to knock it back to his keeper, WATSON anticipated well to gather the ball round their number one and stroke the ball home.

Dundonald scored a terrific equaliser after 31 minutes. ANTHONY showed great skill to leave Thompson off balance and he took advantage of the space he'd created for himself by smashing the ball into the top left hand corner.

The away team nearly took the lead a minute later when Young shot just wide when gifted an opportunity to shoot.

If Roselea felt themselves fortunate to have not conceded with that they were doubly lucky to not concede just moments later. Meikle made a great run into the box and cut back for Wallace who scuffed his shot wide of the post from just 5 yards out.

Although Dundonald appeared on top Roselea were consistently showing they posed a threat at the other end. A long free kick from Rae was knocked down to Collier who's shot was well saved by the away keeper.

YOUNG put Dundonald Bluebell in the lead on the stroke on half time when he beat the offside trap and toe poked past McLeod.

Half Time- Montrose Roselea 1 Dundonald Bluebell 2

Roselea came out for the second half fully committed to getting a leveller and they did just that just 2 minutes into the half. Mowatt took a deep corner which found the diving head of WHYTE who rocketed the ball into the roof of the net.

Cruickshank almost gave the 'Lea a lead a minute later when. Campbell's cross found him at the back post but his header shaved the top of the crossbar.

Dundonald were beginning to show their class and took the lead after 64 minutes. Meikle found YOUNG who's powerful shot found the net despite the best efforts of McLeod to keep the ball out.

Meikle was fouled in the box to win a penalty for Dundonald. The spot kick was poor as McLeod made the save with his legs before gathering.

Tringham replaced Watson with 20 minutes to go.

McDowell had had a good game in midfield and was unlucky not to get an equaliser after 75 minutes when his shot went just wide of the post.

Dundonald killed the game off when they won another penalty. YOUNG stepped up this time and made no mistake to give the away team a two goal cushion.

Roselea made 2 subs as Greig and Smith replaced Thompson and Mowatt but neither could have any real impact as Dundonald kept possession well to see the match out.

Despite the defeat, Roselea will believe there is still continual improvement in their performances of late which will hopefully stand them in good stead for next weekends crucial fixture away to Forfar West End. This match kicks off at 1.45pm

JAGS AND LEA SHARE THE POINTS

Posted by Roy Gill at Nov 8, 2015 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Montrose Roselea 1-1 Dalkeith Thistle

Roselea picked up a valuable point against 5th placed Dalkeith after a performance on the whole that just about merited 2 more.

The Broomfield park groundsmen worked round the clock to ensure the game was played after torrential rain in the build up to the area had put the fixture in doubt.

The weather was dull and the first half entertainment was not much better. Roselea created the first chance of the match after 21 minutes when Collier laid the ball to Mowatt but the forward crucially slipped at the wrong time to cancel out the opportunity to shoot.

The best move of the half and arguably the match came after 31 minutes. A long ball was superbly knocked down by Watson into Cruikshank's path. The winger cut the ball ball to Mowatt and his fierce strike was well saved by Paterek but the ball rebounded to Campbell but the Roselea player could only blast over from 10 yards out.

It has to be said both defences were well on top with what the opposition threw at them and half time came without any more clear chances.

The start of the second half was the opposite to the end of the first with chances galore at both ends.

Cruickshank played a superb low pass in to Campbell at the back post and his effort looked to be heading into the corner before a defender blocked his effort.

Almost immediately Dalkeith had a similar move themselves with HUNTER receiving a low cross and made no mistake in the finish to put his team 1-0 up.

After 54 minutes Cruickshank gathered from Campbell and took a touch before blasting towards goal but the effort was equally matched by Paterek in goal.

Mowatt won a penalty for the home team after 56 minutes drawing a handball from an opposition defender. WATSON stepped up and smashed the ball home to draw things level.

The pitch was beginning to tear up and a bad bounce found Rae in trouble at the back but he made a terrific recovering tackle to thwart Lally who looked in on goal.

The away team were beginning to create chances and although their was a hint of handball in Hunter's control, the referee played on but McLeod made a good save to keep the score level.

Osborne had a great chance on 70 minutes but leant back and blasted over for the away side.

A minute later Mowatt nearly put the home team up when he rounded the keeper and shot from the narrowest angles but his effort hit the side netting.

Roselea had one more chance when a Campbell cross found Watson but the striker couldn't find the target with his header.

Roselea made a couple of late changes with Greig and Findlater replacing Campbell and Sturrock.

A good point overall against a team who are near the top of the league. Despite going a goal down Roselea battled their way back into the game which they have failed to do lately when conceding first.

Next week sees them host Dundonald Bluebell 2pm kick off. Hospitality is available should anyone want to book it.

Roselea McLeod, Rae, Sturrock(Findlater), Thomson, Whyte, Collier, Campbell, Anderson, Watson, Mowatt, Cruickshank(Greig)

KENNOWAY STAR TAKE THE HONOURS IN 1ST MEETING

KENNOWAY STAR HEARTS V MONTROSE ROSELEA
MCBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE
SAT OCT 31ST 2015

Roselea headed to pastures new as they faced Junior new boys Kennoway Star Hearts for the first time ever. The former Amateur side joined the Junior ranks in 2013 and have made massive progress by being promoted in their second season to the Premier League.

Roselea arrived at Treaton Park with a host of absentees, Calum Watson and James Collier joined long term injured Ross Mitchell on the sidelines whilst Andy Tringham and Paul Whyte were both unavailable. To add to the problems for the Management team Craig Sturrock served the second of his two game suspension.

The match had a six point feel to it with Kennoway Star 2 points behind Roselea having played one more game than the visitors

Roselea: Mcleod, Dalgarno, Taylor, Thomson, McDowell, Mowatt, Rae, Anderson, Cruickshank, Bailey & Greig. Subs: M Smith, Campbell & Findlater

Roselea lost the toss and were put in to bat first with the Treaton Park slope in their favour with a slight wind and a low sun at their backs.

Roselea took full advantage of this and made a great start to the game on a wet surface. In 3 minutes Greig had a low effort from 25 yards which looked to be going well wide but home keeper Sutherland did Roselea a favour by tipping the ball round the post for a corner.

Jack Dalgarno and Michael Cruickshank then had shots which did not hit the target as Roselea continued to dominate the opening quarter.

In 17 minutes Kennoway had their first opening when Mowatt conceded a free kick in the middle of the pitch. When the long ball came in Mcleod looked to be comfortably holding the ball but let it slip and McDowell had to clear and when the ball came back in he cleared for a corner as he intercepted a cut back.

In 25 minutes Calum Rae picked up a rather harsh booking as he slid in on equal terms with a tackle on Kevin Byers. The referee indicated he thought it had been two footed.

Kennoway had the best chance of the game so far in 28 minutes after Roselea had dominated without unlocking the door. The ball fell to Wilson the Kennoway striker and Mcleod saved well with his feet.

It was to be a warning that Roselea never heeded as the home side took the lead in 29 minutes. The ball was squared to WILSON and this time he made sure with a low pass into the back of the net.

Roselea again pressed down the slope and despite getting into good areas both Anderson and Cruickshank had their shots blocked.

In 36 minutes Greig had a blast for Roselea from 25 yards and after the ball took a deflection it looped into the air and looked netbound only for it to fall wide for a corner.

Ryan Taylor picked up a short corner and tried his luck from the corner of the 18 yard box but his curling shot was slightly too high to trouble Sutherland in the goal.

Half Time: Kennoway Star Hearts 1 Montrose Roselea 0

Roselea had failed to take anything from the first half and with the slope now in the home teams favour it was going to be an uphill challenge especially with the lowering sun in their faces.

Kyle Findlater replaced the injured Jack Dalgarno straight after the break.

The second half opened evenly however Roselea passed up a great chance to get level in 55 minutes. Greig raced up the left and poked the ball past keeper Sutherland who had slid and missed the ball, he then squared to Bailey on the penalty spot who seemed to have the goal at his mercy however a great sliding tackle saw the ball deflect behind for a corner.

In a strange move Kennoway Star replaced keeper Sutherland who was perhaps carrying an injury with sweeper Bremner straight after this.

Shaw the Kennoway left winger was giving Findlater a tough time down the line and Mcleod had to be brave to save at the feet of Gray in 60 minutes.

Grant Mowatt was starting to look very dangerous and went on a run up the middle beating two men but he couldn’t get enough power in his curling shot to bother the replacement keeper.

It just didn’t look like being Roselea’s day when in 75 minutes Craig Anderson hit a screamer from 30 yards which came back off the corner of the post and bar.

In 80 minutes Roselea made a double change with Campbell & Smith coming on for Rae & Bailey.

The home side looked to have the points sealed in 84 minutes. Roselea could not clear their lines from a throw in and then Findlater was adjudged to have fouled Shaw after the ball had gone out for a throw. Eventually when the ball was crossed in Ryan Taylor was left with two men to mark and Gavin GRAY headed past Mcleod to make it 2-0.

Roselea tried to get back into the game however it was the home side who took the last honour of the day with a well worked goal from Kevin BYERS who used all his experience to play a nice one-two at the edge of the box before stroking home.

Full Time: Kennoway Star Hearts 3 Montrose Roselea 0

This was a harsh lesson for Roselea who had actually played well enough but failed to turn their early dominance into goals often making the wrong decision to shoot or pass. As always in the Premier League the first goal can be crucial. There was always the feeling that if Roselea had scored they could go on to win. This defeat drops Roselea into one of the four relegation spots as Kennoway leapfrog them by one point although Roselea have a game in hand.

The team will have to pick themselves up for the first of two home fixtures against Dalkeith then Dundonald Bluebell who are both sitting in the upper reaches of the Division. Both matches at Broomfield Park kick off at 2.00pm.

Roselea are offering their usual Hospitality packages for both games please contact the club for further details or to book.

ROSE TEACH LEA A LESSON

Bonnyrigg Rose 6-1 Montrose Roselea

Scottish Junior Cup 2nd Round

Sat Oct 24th 2015

Roselea bowed out of the Scottish Junior Cup after coming up against a free scoring and admittedly superior opposition in Superleague outfit Bonnyrigg Rose.

Roselea couldn't have made a worse start to the game going three goals down within the opening 10 minutes.

A Nelson free kick was headed home by MOYES to set the home team on their way.

After 7 minutes Gray made a good run down the right wing and found KIDD who headed home at the far post.

The tie was effectively over after 10 minutes when GRAY ran on to a through ball and finished with aplomb.

Roselea did begin to show a little more after the disastrous start but couldn't quite create any clear cut opportunities as Greig up top became more and more isolated as the half progressed.

Bonnyrigg kept up the sustained pressure and added a fourth when Stewart found MCGACHIE to score with another header for Bonnyrigg.

Roselea were a bit unfortunate to concede a fifth just moments later. Ex Airdrie player GRAY tried his luck 30 yards out and the strike took a deflection and looped into the top corner.

It could have been worse were it not for a brave block from Thompson on the line and a superb reflex save from McLeod in goals.

Half time- Bonnyrigg Rose 5 Montrose Roselea 0

Roselea came out for the second half trying to gather some respectability towards the scoreline. With a more attacking philosophy in place set out to press higher up the park their slight tweak resulted in pulling back a goal straight from the whistle. Mowatt showed great determination to win the ball and slipped the ball into GREIG who slid home to give the small travelling crowd something to cheer.

The away team almost got another back when Cruickshank had a shot well saved and as the rebound came back to Greig his effort came crashing back off the crossbar.

McLeod pulled off his second 'Worldie' of the match tipping over a close range shot from McIntosh.

Dalgarno cleared off the line from a Mclaren effort after 70 minutes.

Bonnyrigg got their sixth just after when MCLAREN struck home from close range following another good move down the right.

With 18 minutes to go Roselea made a double substitution putting on their only two fit subs Smith and Campbell for Dalgarno and Taylor.

A much improved second half with plenty of positives to take from the game despite the heavy scoreline. Bonnyrigg will be one of the favourites to lift the trophy and the club would like to thank them for their superb hospitality and wish them luck in the remainder of the competition.

Montrose Roselea. McLeod, Dalgarno (Smith), Taylor (Campbell),Whyte, Thomson, Collier ,Mowatt, Rae, Greig, Anderson ,Cruickshank.
