Timmins own Dean Prentice has passed away. Dean played 22 seasons between 1952–53 and 1973–74. Over his NHL career, Prentice played for the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Minnesota North Stars.

Prentice played 1378 career NHL games, scoring 391 goals and 469 assists for 860 points.

Dean and his wife June have two daughters, Kelly and Kerry.

The North Stars community sends our thoughts to the Prentice Family and all who knew him.


Congratulations to our Timmins North Stars Major Peewees for winning the 2019 Humberview Huskies Scotiabank Challenge Cup AA Tournament with a 2-0 win over Ottawa Valley Silver 7 in the finals. The team is off to a red hot 14-0-1 start to the season this year.


What is Dodge Caravan Kids?

The goal of Dodge Caravan Kids is to help enrich the game of hockey for participating coaches, players and their families. Dodge Caravan Kids represents one of FCA Canada’s key community endeavours. Each year, participating Novice-level hockey teams receive $500 in funding and access to exclusive hockey benefits. To-date, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram, FIAT® retailers and FCA Canada Inc. have provided over $9.6 million to help more than 21,000 teams and 315,000 kids enjoy the game of hockey.

Who Is Eligible?

Canadian novice hockey teams and associations located within 150 kilometres of a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram and FIAT® retailer. Visit to locate your closest retailer. (NOTE: Atom division teams are ONLY eligible in Atlantic Canada.) Exemptions can be made upon request (i.e., in rural areas where car dealerships are not local).
Teams and associations are eligible to participate regardless of other corporate sponsorships they may have, unless those partnerships are with a competing automaker or their associated retailer.

Program Benefits

Each team/association enrolled in the Dodge Caravan Kids program will receive: $500 in funding. Please contact your local branch/association for further information on funding policies.

TMHA is pleased to announce a new hockey development initiative (Skills Sessions). These Skills Sessions are designed to accelerate and further the development of our young athletes. The Skills Sessions are being hosted by TMHA in partnership with “Discover Fitness with Kate Durst Inc. and Discover Performance with Lisa Tremblay” The Skills Sessions are being staffed by qualified power skating, hockey skills and goaltending instructors from “Discover Fitness with Kate Durst Inc. and Discover Performance with Lisa Tremblay”.

There will be a maximum of sixteen (16) skaters and four (4) goalies allowed on the ice during each Skills Session. Skills Sessions for the month of October have been scheduled from 4-5pm at the Mountjoy Arena on the dates shown below.

Monday October 7th, 2019 – Tier 1 Novice

Monday October 14th, 2019 – Tier 1 Bantam Minor

Monday October 21st, 2019 – Tier 1 Atom

Monday October 28th, 2019 – Tier 1 Peewee

More sessions will be added as the season moves forward.

Registration for the skills session being offered by TMHA will be open for registration at 9am on Monday, September 30th, 2019 on our website in the menu above. Registrations will remain open until 5pm on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019. TMHA asks that all players/parents that are interested in attending the skills sessions please register during the time period mentioned above. The fee for the Skills Sessions will be $10 per player (TMHA is subsidizing 30 to 50% of the costs). The fee is payable at the rink to “Discover Fitness with Kate Durst Inc. and Discover Performance with Lisa Tremblay”.

Your respective coaching staff will be responsible for managing a schedule for your team to ensure that every player that has registered is given the opportunity to attend as many sessions as possible throughout the season.
