Step up to the Majors with Pitch Hit & Run!

Major League Baseball® Pitch Hit & Run is a free event that provides boys and girls — ages 7 to 14 — an opportunity to showcase their baseball and softball skills, while earning a chance to attend and perform during the MLB® World Series!

Athletes are tested, and their measurements are recorded. Based on their scores, they advance from a local event to a Team Championship held in MLB stadiums. Top scores then qualify for an all-expenses-paid trip for two to compete at the National Finals, which is hosted at the World Series.

A Tribute to the Life and Ministry of Dave McQueen, Professional Baseball Scout
by Tammy Jones (Author), Linda DuBose (Author), Melinda Wallace (Author), Teri Netterville (Author)

Dave McQueen took an intriguing journey from humble beginnings through many adversities to a dream fulfilled in unanticipated ways. The story of “The Little Boy” will encourage all who read it to “Say the prayer and wait for the plan.”

Dixie Pre-Majors Deputy Commissioner Mike Streams of DeQuincy wrote the following:

“Dave and his wife have dedicated many years to the young men of Dixie Baseball and DBB. You can find Dave around the ball field sharing his heartfelt stories with just about anyone that will lend an ear to listen to him. Not only sharing his stories Dave shares the hope of a young player from the diamond that wants to go on to college and further his baseball career and makes it possible for these young men to do this.

“We have witnessed Dave help many young men get into a college when there seem to be no hope of them ever stepping foot on a baseball diamond again. Dave and his wife are well deserving of this Induction into the Hall of Fame of DBB Baseball and will continue to be asset to our program and to know them is to love them. They have away of stealing your heart!!!!”

Dave McQueen played Dixie Baseball as a youth and then became a coach in the organization. In 1989, the McQueens became known as the “Voice and Lights” of baseball. As volunteers, Dave handled PA duties and Dianne operated the scoreboard and music.

Sterlington, Louisiana………July 22, 2022…………..JPRD East, Louisiana won six games in a row over a three-day period to repeat as the champions of the DBB World Series 15U division. The title for the JPRD East team is their third in the seven-year history of the 15U World Series. The 2022 championship game was a good baseball game with JPRD East defeating Southern Elite, Louisiana by a score of 4-1. Southern Elite, LA (5-1) had a great tournament run, advancing out of pool play undefeated and winning two games in single elimination bracket play. The twenty-four (24) team event had the following six teams winning their pool along with two “wild card” teams.

Pool A Winner: Southern Elite, Louisiana

Pool B Winner: Pottsboro, Texas

Pool E Winner: Motley, Virginia

Pool F Winner: JPRD East, Louisiana

Wild Card: East Texas Stars

J. Sandy Jones, Commissioner/CEO commented, “We were very pleased to host our largest ever World Series for the 15U age division. It was exciting to have all eleven of our state programs represented in World Series play. I congratulate all of the teams and hope the experience will bring fond memories for everyone associated with the event. Hosting 24 teams in a three-day event is only possible when you have the luxury of a five-field premier playing facility as found at the Sterlington Sports Complex. The logistics for this showcase event were handled locally by Kerry Elee, SSC operator, and Scott Bruscato, Sr. Vice President of Discover Monroe – West Monroe, Louisiana. Serving along with the Commissioner as Assistant Tournament Directors for DBB were Jason Parker, Rick Berry, and Dan Capps. From our hosts, DBB tournament directors, SSC staff, DBB umpires, LSPN Live, and all others associated with the tournament, it proved to be a very successful team effort.”

Sterlington, Louisiana………July 26, 2022……….. Southland, Louisiana (6-0) went undefeated in winning the “Keith Brewer Championship Award” and in doing so repeated as the champions of the Pre-Majors World Series. The 2022 edition of the Southland team proved to be as good or better than the 2021 champion. Southland yielded only 14 runs in their five games played, while scoring a total of 51 runs. The host Sterlington team (3-2) ,as the finalist, lost two games to the champions. The championship game featured great baseball with Southland, Louisiana winning a 3-2 title game over Sterlington. A strong tournament showing by North Charleston, South Carolina (3-2) allowed them to advance to the final day of play. Both of the South Carolina losses came against the eventual champs. DeQuincy, Louisiana took home the “Bill Moore Sportsmanship Award.”

J. Sandy Jones, Commissioner/CEO commented, “We witnessed some really good baseball in the twenty-two games held in the Pre-Majors division of the 2022 World Series. Congratulations to all of the teams involved with the 2022 Pre-Majors World Series. Michael Streams, Pre-Majors Deputy Commissioner, served as the Tournament Director for the Pre-Majors World Series. He was ably assisted by the Louisiana Dixie Majors leadership and an excellent umpire crew headed by Dan Capps, National Umpire Coordinator. Our Opening Ceremony, coaches meetings and seven baseball games were held on the campus of the University of Louisiana – Monroe. ULM did an outstanding job in hosting our events and we were very impressed with the upgrades to Warhawk Field.

The Sterlington Sports Complex held fifteen games and everyone enjoyed the great experience afforded at this premier baseball venue. Working with Kerry Elee at the SSC is a real pleasure. Discover Monroe- West Monroe is an outstanding organization and we were honored to once again visit with their staff. The hospitality was exceptional. Scott Bruscato, Sr. Vice President at Discover Monroe – West Monroe, the local tournament host, is outstanding in all he does in conducting our World Series events. A special thank you to our hosts, tournament directors, LSPN and all related staff that supported the 2022 Pre-Majors World Series event. We will return to the Sterlington Sports Complex for the Pre- Majors World Series to be held in July of 2023.”
