The 2001 season saw the Jags reach the playoffs for the third consecutive year, however they bowed out in the first round with a loss to Hudson. The finished 4-4 in this rebuilding year, after being the Champs the previous 2 years. The Coaching staff remained pretty much in tact with only Scott Hendricks leaving due to work commitments.
Assistant Coach Lee Mercer, Ken Pekarek, and Bob Morcom, and Tom Ward (who moved up from his previous Head JV Coach position) all worked hard to blend this new group of players into a team. They look forward to 2002 and another chance to take a run at a championship.
The Jag Cheer Squads exploded in numbers as well and they all had a very fine year under Head Cheer Coach Wren Roskey.

The Jets took some more steps forward in 2001, as Cleatus Varney took over as Head Coach. They finished 2-6 which was one more win than they had the year before, but don't let that record fool you as the Jets have won 3 games in their first 2 seasons, where the Jags did not win a game till their 3rd season.
With the departure of Coach Supan to the 8th grade program, Coach Varney had assistance from Steve Watkins, who moved up to Varsity from JV Head Coach, and from Coach Dave Weiland. The kids played much better and were only a play here and there from having 3 or 4 wins under their belts during this season. The Jets will be looking forward to season number 3, as Coach Watkins takes over as Head Coach, and they continue taking steps forward to winning their 1st BYF Championship.
The Jets Cheerleadering Squads also filled out this season and they did a great job under 2nd year Head Coach Kim Watkins.

In 2001 Buckeye Youth Football welcomed their 3rd team the Buccaneers. They were only able to field a JV squad but it was still a nice expansion as we grew to over 190 children in football and cheerleading.
Once again Coach Rea was designated the Head Coach, but the work was done by JV Head Coach Scot Asvestas, who will become the Head Coach in 2002. He got some good help from Steve Hunt, Charlie Shaw, and Jeff Mennell.
The kids did real well out of the chute, they learned about the game and had fun playing it. JV Cheer Coach Kelly Hunt did a great job with her girls too. We are hoping there will be an expansion to a Varsity team the near future.

This season brought Midview into the league and with the birth of the Redskins, who the Jags would latter learn to love to beat! The turnout for 1998 was a little bit off as far as number of players, but we scrapped enough to fill the squads out, and the players that came out, came out to play!

Lee sold the players on the ideas if "TEAM" and "BUCKEYE PRIDE". We finished at 2-5 overall, as we won the last game of the season, and the seed was planted for the Jags to earn respect from the other squads in the BYF.
The 1998 season also saw the arrival of Wren Roskey as the Jags Head Cheer Coach. Her coming on board coupled with Coach Mercer's arrival, would prove to be excellent for the future as the 1999 and 2000 seasons would prove.

That season we solidified our place in the Buckeye Football family and gained the support of then Buckeye Bucks Head Coach Jeff Ladner.

The Buckeye Jaguars had their Inaugural Season in 1996 with a total of 31 players on the Varsity and JV rosters, and 5 Cheerleaders under the direction of Denise Price. The team was brought into existance with the idea of helping to build the Buckeye Bucks Football family. We were the newest team and helped BYF to celebrate their 25th Season. We took hand me down jerseys from the old Raiders and those ugly blue helmets from the Colts (some still with the horse shoe on them). The coaching staff contained some former players of the Buckeye Bucks who wanted to help the players learn the basics of football. We went 0-7 as we struggled to learn as coaches and players. We were able that year to show the league that we were serious and determined to be around and show that Buckeye players could hold their own against anything Brunswick could throw at us.
