2007 Jets Season

Posted by Dave Rea at Nov 24, 2007 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The 2007 Jets Varsity was revitalized by the return of some players who didn't play in 2006 and the influx of players coming from the 9-1 JV squad of 2006.  The managed to go 8-0 in the regular season, the 5th time that has been done by a BYFA team.  The won the first two rounds of playoffs to go 10-0 and become the first team to win 10 games in a season. Unfortunately the ride came to an end in November when they lost a very close game 15-12 to the Brunswick Jets. Brunswick converted both of their extra point attempts while our Jets didn't.

All in all it was a good season for the Varsity after not fielding a team in 2006.  The JV squad had a bit of a rough go as they went 3-5 under new JV Head Coach Dan Kohler who took over for Mike Vogt who moved up to the Varsity level.

The Flag team was under the direction of Art Clark, his wife Janet coached the Flag Cheer Squad and Jody Theis was the JV Cheer Coach.

2004 Jets Season

Posted by Dave Rea at Nov 19, 2007 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Jets came into 2004 as the defending BYF Champions. They were the team everyone wanted to beat, especially since the expansion to 12 teams in two divisions.

They lost many of their players from 2003, however they filled out the squad with experienced JV and draft picks. They weren't the dominant squad they were in 2003, but they still had a good season and were in the hunt until the last week of the season. They finished at 5-3 and chalked up another winning season in the books.
They were again coached by Head Coach Steve Watkins and Assistants Mark Carrow and Scott Watkins.

The Jets Cheerleaders added their support to their players as they again showed much enthuisasm! Head Coach Kim Watkins completed her 5th Season with the Jets girls.

2004 Jaguars Season

Posted by Dave Rea at Nov 19, 2007 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
2004 marked the 6th consecutive year that the Jaguars made the playoffs. However this time it had a good and bad ending as they made it to the Championship game for the 3rd time in the last 6 years. They came up a bit short as they lost 12-8 to the CCYF Jets, to finish at 9-1.

The Coaching staff remained the same, some coaches just changed squads. Lee Mercer, in his first full year as Head Coach, Andy Wuensch, and Tom Hugney did the Varsity duties with Gary Karr helping on game days. Chuck Magle left the Head JV Coaching job, and he was replaced by Doug Peyton, who got help from Tim Roskey and Joe Spence.

The Jaguar Cheer Squads again provided on field support and had their usual standard of excellence under Head Cheer Coach Wren Roskey, who completed her 7th season and first as BYFA Cheer Coordinator.

2004 Buccaneers Season

Posted by Dave Rea at Nov 19, 2007 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The 2004 season was the 4th year for the Buccaneers, and it also brought forth their 1st Varsity Squad. They return of almost the entire 2003 JV squad that was eligible to move up made the Varsity transition easier, and gave the new squad experience. The foundation for the future remains solid, as the Bucs went 3-5. The 3 wins in their first season was more than either the Jags or Jets could muster in their inaugural seasons. They are off and running now and the 3rd Varsity gives Buckeye Youth Football a big jump to help feed the Junior High and High School football programs.

Head Coach Scot Asvestas returned, along with Varsity assistants Scott Gilbert and Steve Hunt, keeping the continuity in the coaching staff for these young players. He also welcomed in Chris Calta as Head JV Coach. Chris had the assistance of Austin Eggert who was in his 3rd season, and another newcomer Rich Metheney. These players have learned football fundamentals and having fun.

Sandy Thomas took over as JV Cheer Coach. They Bucs were not able to field a Varsity Cheer Squad this season, but hopefully that will change in 2005. All in all 2004 was a fine year for the Buccaneers.

Jets Drop A Close One In 2007 Championship Game

Posted by Dave Rea at Oct 27, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Jets Varsity didn't have their season come to the outcome that they wanted it to as they dropped a close game to the Brunswick Jets 15-12 on Saturday night at Steingass Field.  The Jets trailed by one at the half 7-6 and even though the teams exchanged TDs in the second half, the difference was that Brunswick was able to convert a 1 point PAT and a 2 point PAT.

Congratulations to Head Coach Steve Watkins, Coaches Mike Vogt and Rick Monroe and the entire Jets Varsity Squad on an excellent season as they finished 10-1.  You showed pride and determination all season and Buckeye Football is proud of you!
