Kicks Off Girls Softball League
4/29/03 - Forest Hills Youth Activity Association, with the help of Councilwoman Melinda Katz, has "revitalized the area's all-girls softball league. With the help of her "special assitant for youth sports activities" J.R. Nocerino, Katz was on hand to kick off their inaugural season this Sunday at a special mother daughter exhibition game. The mothers have asked for a rematch after losing to their daughters 5 to 3.
In its first year of Katz's participation, interest in the league has been strong. Approximately sixty girls from the ages of nine to sixteen have signed on to play. The league is scheduled to have a twelve game season over a six-week period, with championships in June.
Melinda had three hits... including the first hit of the game and scored the first run of the season, she also played second base quite well. Special assistant Nocerino will also coach the team that katz has sponsored, Team Katz.
