This season brought Midview into the league and with the birth of the Redskins, who the Jags would latter learn to love to beat! The turnout for 1998 was a little bit off as far as number of players, but we scrapped enough to fill the squads out, and the players that came out, came out to play!
Coach Lee Mercer arrived on the scene and we recorded our first win in the season opener on our home field by thumping the Browns 36-12. Lee sold the players on the ideas if "TEAM" and "BUCKEYE PRIDE". We finished at 2-5 overall, as we won the last game of the season, and the seed was planted for the Jags to earn respect from the other squads in the BYF.
The 1998 season also saw the arrival of Wren Roskey as the Jags Head Cheer Coach. Her coming on board coupled with Coach Mercer's arrival, would prove to be excellent for the future as the 1999 and 2000 seasons would prove.

The Buckeye Jaguars had their Inaugural Season in 1996 with a total of 31 players on the Varsity and JV rosters, and 5 Cheerleaders under the direction of Denise Price. The team was brought into existance with the idea of helping to build the Buckeye Bucks Football family. We were the newest team and helped BYF to celebrate their 25th Season. We took hand me down jerseys from the old Raiders and those ugly blue helmets from the Colts (some still with the horse shoe on them). The coaching staff contained some former players of the Buckeye Bucks who wanted to help the players learn the basics of football. We went 0-7 as we struggled to learn as coaches and players. We were able that year to show the league that we were serious and determined to be around and show that Buckeye players could hold their own against anything Brunswick could throw at us.
The Jags began 1999 wanting to run, (with Joe Hon and Dustin Supan you have to run), and the season proved to be the turning point of the program. We had 17 players out on Varsity and several of those players were in their 3rd and 4th seasons with the Jags. They brought leadership, poise, and experience to the team. We had found a leader in QB Drew Megrey, and had much more experienced linemen.
When August ended everyone was excited and felt good things were going to come our way. The opening weekend though would see disaster strike as the Jags were dealt a double wammy at the start of the campaign. In the Saturday night opener at Buckeye we lost to the Steelers 14-12, and played the dreaded Chargers the very next day and lost again, this time 32-0. Two weeks later we would be 1-3 and thinking the bottom fell out of the season.
Then on a cold and rainy night in October, the Redskins visited Buckeye. The Jags were without the services of 5 starters, due to injury, overweight, one out of town, and 1 suspended. The game went to overtime with the score tied 0-0. The Jags got the ball and drove down near the goal line and scored on a run by Danny Lough, Jags win 6-0. It was that point in time that turned the switch on and made them believe they could do it, they had just won without 5 starters by refusing to give up. Buckeye Youth Football came of age, all the hard work, effort, and dedication was about to pay off big time for these kids! It began a string of 13 wins that would carry into the 2000 Championship game. By the way it started a streak for the Redskins of 3 consecutive losses to the Jags without EVEN scoring.
That one game brought out the best in our players and showed that we belonged in the BYF. But they weren't done, on a cold night in November they faced the Chargers who were champions 2 of the last 3 years going into that game. They had only lost 3 games in 5 years, and had no respect for us whatsoever. They even had their championship trophies ordered PRIOR to the game being played (and had them made with UNDEFEATED SEASON on them)! With 3 minutes gone in the first quarter the Jags led 14-0 and the torch was passed as the Jags finished it 26-6 and collected their first BYF Championship. To be the best, you have to beat the best. We did. No longer were the Jags the team anyone could beat by just showing up. The Teal & Black attack was born, and this season had just been a preview.

The Jaguars returned for their second season. We lost alot of Varsity players but still had a good turnout of players and cheerleaders. We were able to gain a JV Cheerleading squad under Coach Scarpelli. We got new jerseys and took a step forward by having players in their second year who stepped forward as team leaders helping their inexperienced teamates to work hard and show that Buckeye Pride! We went 0-7 again to fall to 0-14 overall, but we were a better team. The competition level came up, as were able to look respectable in games.
The CCYF Jets handed the Jaguars their only loss of the season in the 2004 Championship Game. The Jets won the game 12-8 in a that went down to the final 3 minutes. The Jags were leading 8-6 deep in Jets territory when the Jets recovered a fumble and took the ball out to their own 31 yard line. On the next play they lost 5 yards back to the 25. On a 2 and 15 they threw a pass into the right flat and went 75 yards for the score to end it. It was a well played game by both teams and the game capped off the first season of play with the three organizations being involved. There were 12 Varsity teams, they played a total of 99 games, and got down to 1 Champion.
