Spikes Compete well in BPA State Tournament.

Posted by Keith Waninger on Jul 09 2006 at 05:00PM PDT in 2011 Season
All Six Spikes teams competed in the Kentucky BPA State tournament held in Owensboro July 7-8-9th. The Spike teams that placed were as follows: 10U's = State Champs 11U’s = State Runners-up 12U’s = 4th place 13U’s = 4th place 10U: On July 9th the 10U Spikes finished tournament play undefeated with a record of 4-0 to bring home the crown as the BPA Kentucky State Champs!! These boys came to the field ready to play this weekend and showed what they are capable of. Of course they did have a little extra incentive since Wilky promised to shave his head if they won it all. Hmmm, where is Wilky by the way? Keep an eye out for him and his new look!! Way to go Spikes!! Go to the 10U's own Webpage, then click on the "10U Pictures" folder for a shot of a few teammates offering to assist Wilk with "The Haircut". Drew Grass with scissors - now that is scary!!! 11U: The 11U Spikes enjoyed a great weekend of baseball and walked away as the 2006 Kentucky BPA 11U State Runners Up! The weekend started with an opening game against the Mt. Vernon Wildbats. The Spikes remembered an earlier loss dealt to them and avenged that loss with a commanding win, 12-3! What a great start!! The Spikes second round opponent turned out to be the Owensboro Nitro, a team that seems to give the Spikes fits on most occasions. The Spikes played tough, and with the help of a perfectly, orchestrated squeeze-play at the plate, tied the game in the sixth inning and went on to win 7-3! The Spikes once again found themselves in the Sunday afternoon Championship game against the Louisville Panthers. The Panthers squeaked out a close game and defeated the Spikes 5-3 in the first game. This sent the two teams into the "if needed" second championship game, with the Panthers holding on to a 7-4 lead and winning their second Kentucky BPA State Title. Great weekend guys! Stick around, we will get one of those 11U Championships! Thanks also to Jordan Messmer for playing with the Spikes this weekend!! imageimageimage
