Olympian – Canadian Champion – World Cup Champion
Liisa was introduced to skiing at 14 months of age and lived her dreams to become one of Canada’s Best. As a graduate of Alpine Ontario programs, Liisa was a versatile athlete, the only Canadian female racer to train and compete in downhill, super G and giant slalom. She proudly represented Canada internationally at Olympics, consecutive World Championships and full World Cup seasons from 1982 to 1987. Among her career highlights is a World Cup victory in Furano, JPN (1986), a top 10 result at the Olympics in Sarajevo(1984) and numerous international podium results. In 1987, Liisa qualified for the 1988 Olympics in Calgary and was crowned ‘Canadian Downhill Champion’. At the final World Cup stop of the season, Liisa suffered a high speed crash resulting in serious multiple injuries forcing her to retire from ski racing – but not the sport! In 1989 she started the ‘Ski Escape’ ski improvement programs, sharing her passion and joy for the sport. Proudly she is a member of ‘Canada’s Honour Roll of Skiing’, a level 3 CSCF coach, a level 2 CSIA.
