“Wow! The 6th grade volleyball TN Fun Day turned out well, with many HJPC teams competing in this event. Head Coach of the Varsity Lady Vikings, Chandace Tryon , and Assistant Coach, Gina Brancato, were there with members of the JV & Varsity teams to help support the MS and helped make sure the vent ran smoothly through pool play action. The 6th grade team played 10 games in pool play against 4 teams, winning 2 of those 10 games but scoring 15 to 25 points in each game, except one. In the afternoon, teams competed in bracket play, with the absence of 3 athletes, losing 23-25 and 16-25, again right in the match scoring loads of points and improving both offensively and defensively. The best thing about the TN was the team rcvd loads of court action with multiple lineups and will be more ready for the matches ahead. I was very pleased with the girls attitude, energy and focus, along with the parents support and THANK YOU to the high school volleyball athletes in their hard work as refs, scorekeepers, line judges and working the concession stand.” -Coach Garcea

Go Vikings!!!

The Village School partners with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) to better serve our student-athletes, coaches, and parents. PCA provides us with ongoing workshops that help create the culture within our athletic department to better our athletes both on and off the court. They teach us to honor the game, develop leaders, and help us reach closer to personal mastery. They also teach us how to learn positive life lessons through sports.

Here are a few “Back to School Tips” for our athletes, parents, and coaches:

  • Coaches Cultivating A Caring Climate is a podcast with Mary Fry, Director of the University of Kansas Sport and Exercise Psychology Lab, who explains how and why athletes thrive under coaches who care.

  • Parents’ Roles In Achieving Balance Between Sports And Academics contains advice from former Stanford University gymnast Shelly Goldberg, who explains exactly how her parents held her accountable with an eye toward lifelong success.
