Our varsity boys basketball team started district play with a huge win on the road at Beaumont Kelly, 56-52. The team showed a lot of heart and determination throughout the game. Our boys battled adversity early on, falling down by 16 points with a couple of minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. After going into the half down by 12, our Vikings were confident they were going to make a run. Anchored by their stingy defense and intensity, our Vikings made a big run in the 2nd half, securing a 65-62 road win at State-ranked Beaumont Kelly.

Our Varsity boys basketball team is now 1-0 in district play after that huge road win. Come support our boys at HOME this Friday as they play against Awty at 7:00!

The JV Boys soccer team is off to a great start heading into our winter break. After 4 games, we stand at 2-0-2 having beaten our sister school British School of Houston TWICE. This is becoming a great rivalry already! Leading scorers are Clemente Zapata with 5 and close behind is Darren B with 3. We are right back to work with a game on January 3rd against a strong Houston Christian program.

The Boys Varsity Soccer team currently sits at 6-2, allowing a total of 6 goals in the 8 games so far. The offense has been led my senior Lewis H., who is leading the team in goals. The highlight of the season so far was taking second place in The Viking Cup tournament. After the break, the team will start its district schedule. The boys are excited to compete in a new district and at the 6A level. It should prove to be challenging, but nothing that the team can’t handle.

We have had a very successful portion of our season in 2016! This excellent group of young men are not only great student-athletes, but great people as well. The chemistry displayed between them on and off the field is wonderful as they are absolutely rolling together as a team. I have been exceptionally pleased with the way that this team plays together. The passing alone has been outstanding. There have been numerous instances when one could have taken a shot to score a goal for himself, yet passed to a teammate who had an even better scoring opportunity. That kind of selfless play on the pitch will take us very far throughout the season.

Numerically, we are 3-0-0 on the season thus far with a tournament win as well. As a team, we have scored 32 goals and conceded only 3 goals. We are looking forward to the new year with new challenges and opportunities!

On Tuesday, December 6th, The Village School broke ground on its new state of the art facility that will include a competition gym, indoor swimming pool, locker rooms, classroom space, and residential dorms. The Village School is excited to work with Tribble Stephens and Fanning Howey House Partners on this project to provide the very best for our student-athletes, coaches, and Village community.

The indoor swimming pool will be a great addition to campus, allowing for our middle school and high school teams to practice on site. Our partnership with Energy Core Swimming has already helped show tremendous growth in our swim program, and we are confident that the new swimming facility will spark even greater excitement throughout the school.

The competition gym will allow for more seating, locker room space, and a larger weight room. The facility will allow us to host volleyball and basketball events that will attract people from all over the city to our wonderful campus. It will also have the capability of splitting the court with a dropdown, allowing multiple teams to practice together. With a greater space available to us and with efficiency in mind, the new gym will be a substantial upgrade that will better serve our talented student-athletes and teams.

The Village School is in the process of “Constructing the Future” for our students, parents, faculty, and staff. Within the last two years, The Village School has seen the opening of Viking Field, our Village Tennis Center, our new Track and Field, and anxiously await the new Athletic Complex next year. It is remarkable to see the new additions on campus each passing school year. Additions that are designed with our students, coaches, and Village community in mind to use and enjoy. With the right people already in place, these infrastructure additions will allow our programs to flourish.

Go Vikings!
