On Thursday, April 27th, Starlyn F and Amber P, signed their National Letter of Intent to play collegiate athletics. Starlyn F signed with Delta College in Michigan to play basketball. Amber P signed with Davenport University in Michigan to play lacrosse and potentially dual sport in basketball. These two young ladies have been at The Village School for 3 years and have played huge role in raising the bar for female athletics at our school. They were 3-year Varsity starters on the Lady Vikings basketball team. In the last 2 seasons, the Lady Vikings have advanced to the TAPPS 4A (2015-16) and 6A (2016-17) Elite 8 of the State Tournament. Amber also played volleyball and lacrosse, earning MVP in girls lacrosse for the past 2 seasons. She is also our 2x reigning Female Athlete of the Year.

For all of the success these 2 student-athletes have had in their respective sports, they are also high character athletes and leaders in their programs. They contribute to our community by going on service learning projects and have leadership roles as captains on their teams. We wish them well on their journey in college and look forward to following their accomplishments and success at the “Next Level.”

On Sunday, Bo van W. won the US Kids Local Tour Golf Championship. That win earned Bo an invitation to compete in the US Kids World Golf Championship at Pinehurst, NC this summer. This is an incredible achievement for Bo as the qualifying process consists of season points earned from how you rank at each tournament. Despite playing one less tournament than his closest competitor, Bo tied him with total number of season points. His victory at the Tour Championship clinched his spot. This speaks volumes to the high level and consistency of Bo’s performances at the tournaments he entered.

Good luck to Bo this summer as he prepares and competes in the World Golf Championship at Pinehurst!

The MS tennis team had a wonderful season this spring! The boys team finished second overall in the HJPC standings, while the girls team finished fourth. Some of the highlights of the season included the kids participation in the Bay Area Racquet Club tournament, where numerous players received honors, as well Alvaro P. making it to the semi-final match in the HJPC championship tournament. In addition to conference play, the team competed and beat non-conference opponent West Briar Middle School twice. The future looks bright for this program as they lose only to two eighth graders and will have sixteen underclassmen returning for next season. Coach Begley would like to thank all the players and parents who helped make this such an enjoyable season! Go Vikings!!

The course was playing very difficult, with wind gusts up to 25 mph and lightning fast greens. Both Daniel and Mariana adapted well to the conditions, both improving on their Round 1 scores of 91 (Daniel) and 94 (Mariana). Round 2 had overcast skies and it was chilly in the morning. Daniel started his round with a birdie on the par 5 1st hole. He played solid golf in Round 2 and shot an 88, bringing his 2-day total to 179. Mariana O started her round with a par on the par 4 10th hole. After a +9 front 9, Mariana got in a nice rhythm on the back 9, where she shot a 39. Her Round 2 score was an 84, which was the 7th best score in Round 2. Her 2-day total was 178, which earned her a t-17th place in State!

Congratulations to Mariana and Daniel for qualifying to the TAPPS 6A State Tournament. They each had fantastic seasons and excellent careers. Mariana advanced to the State Tournament in each of her 3 years at The Village School. Daniel P also advanced to the State Tournament each year since joining The Village School as a junior.

Middle School Golf has concluded the best season in program history. This season included a tournament victory, and a top three finish at the HJPC Championship Golf Tournament. The Vikings middle school golfers were made up of eight golfers, from 6th thru 8th grade. Leading the Vikings were 8th graders Cole B and George P. The other two returnees were 7th graders, Michael L and Liam B. The returning golfers formed a nice core group, and their experience helped lead the new members of the team. The four new golfers gave a talented spark to the program. Aditya A, Callum L, Dylan F, and Kris K all showed improvement throughout the season. Some high points of the season were four individual Top-10 finishes. George P, Callum L, Cole B, and Michael L all finished the the Top 10 of different tournaments. This depth was a major benefit to the team, as the Vikings finished just two strokes away from a HJPC Championship. The 3rd place finish was the best in the three year history of the middle school program. With five of the eight middle school golfers returning, the Vikings will be a very strong team next season. Coach Brotherton is very excited about the current state of the program and beyond, saying “The development of the program has been a lot of fun. While we would love to win a HJPC Championship, our focus is on the development of our middle school golfers. If we do it the right way, then the success in the middle school should lead to future success for our high school program. Coach Petito is doing a tremendous job of building a program that is connected from 6th thru 12th grade. The future is very bright for Village Vikings Golf.”
