Pirates "Net" the Marlins

Posted by Debbie Stoots on Mar 26 2004 at 04:00PM PST
After a rough loss to the Cards on Thursday night, the Pirates came back full force against the Marlins on Saturday evening.  Jeffrey Rohrbach pitched the first three innings and Trey Hibbert pitched the fourth inning.  Both players were on target and held the Marlins to 2 runs.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Pirates came up to bat with 11 minutes remaining in the game.  With two outs and 4 minutes left on the clock, Trey Hibbert came up to bat and had a 2-2 count and ripped a beautiful homerun to raise the score 5-2.  Jeffrey Rohrbach batted next and hit a nice single.  Cody Stoots came up to bat and Jeffery stole second on one of Cody's strikes.  With a 2-1 count, Cody ripped one high and far to increase the score 7-2.  Mark Vlaskamp batted next and hit a hard single between the 2nd baseman and the shortstop.  With the clock running at 24 seconds, Austin Robinson stepped up to the plate, took one strike, and then on the second pitch from Garret Hester, loaded up, made contact and rang one over the fence to finish the game with a 9-2 final.  What an evening!  Heartiest congratulations to the whole team for a game well played.  Special hoorays to the three that took the ball over the fence.  Thank you to Coach Robinson, Coach Winner and all the other Dads that help coach.  Looking forward to another exciting game next Tuesday.  See you at the park!!!
