Titans-
The plan for this weekend is as follows:
1. The tournament has 12 teams, divided into 4 pools. We are uaranteed
3 games. Each team will play the other two teams in their pool on Friday and Sat., afterwhich, the top 8 teams will advance in a single
elimination tournament on Sunday. The bottom 4 teams will play a single consolation game on Sunday.
2. We have NO games on Friday evening, so please take your time and arrive in Round Rock safely. I strongly recommend driving up Friday
evening and getting a good night's sleep, rather than waking at 4:30am or so, to arrive at fields by desired time.
3. Our first game on Sat. is at 11:15am. Please be at the Old Settler's Park field number 4 at 9:30am. The fields have batting
cages. Those who want to carpool over to the fields should eat, be dressed and in the hotel lobby by 9:15am.
4. Our second game on Sat. is at 8:15pm on Field # 3. Time for arrival
will be established at the end of game 1.
5. Game(s) on Sunday depend on seating, which we should know immediately after our second game on Sat.
6. The forecast for the weekend is overcast, some chance of rain, temperatures ranging from mid 50s to 70. These fields are located on
the top of a hill, with nothing to block the wind for miles, so expect the wind chill temperature to be lower. Bring layers of clothes.
7. Attached are 2 files: - directions on driving to Round Rock and the Old Settler's Park field
- information on the tournament
8. Hotel- Most of you are staying at:
Staybridge Suites by Holiday Inn 520 IH-35 South, Round Rock, TX
78681, phone 512-733-0942
9. I need mobile phone numbers from all, if your mobile phone will
work in Round Rock. Also, I need phone numbers for those who are not
staying at the Staybridge in case of bad weather or changes by the tournament.
My mobile number is 713-898-9511....Verizon swears it is a
'nation-wide' number (we'll see).

K.C. Titan 14's Win Greater Sugar Land Fall Classic II

On Tuesday, September 23, 2003, the final chapter of the 2002-03 Kyle Chapman 14 year old Titans' glorious World Series season was written when the team was honored on the field at Minute Maid Park before the Astros-Giants game that evening. Less than five days later, the 2003-04 version of the 14 year old K.C. Titans demonstrated that they intend to establish their own reputation for excellence, winning the Greater Sugar Land Fall Classic II in the late night hours of Sunday night.
The K.C. 14 Titans opened the tournament by taking a 5-2 lead into the final inning, but giving up 4 runs to lose a difficult 6-5 decision to the Texas Terror. Facing elimination from the championship bracket, the Titans needed to win their next game and hold a very difficult Houston Warriors opponent to 2 runs or less. That is precisely what they did, winning a 1-0 decision in large part due to the one-hit masterpiece thrown by Paul Knowlton (4 innings) and Jeremy Schaffer (2 innings). How dominating was this duo? How about 6 innings, no runs, 1 hit, 3 walks and sixteen (yes, 16) strikeouts out of the 18 defensive outs that were recorded by the Titans.
The Titans turned right around and played the Houston Warriors again on Sunday morning. A good night's sleep and the passage of a cold front invigorated the Titans' bats to the tune of an 11-2 thrashing of the Warriors. Jeffrey Rohrbach and Grant Haynes combined to hold the Warriors to 2 runs (only one earned), on six hits, and six strikeouts. That win put the Titans in the tournament semifinal game on Sunday afternoon.
The Titans faced the top seeded Texas Lonestars in the tournament semifinal. Once again, Titan bats were on red alert, combining for 10 big runs on 16 hits en route to a convincing 10-5 victory over the Lonestars. A five run win does not sound like much, but consider the fact that Diego Lopez and Grant Haynes combined to hold the Lonestars to 2 runs on 8 hits over 6 innings before the Lonestars posted 3 runs in the last inning to make the final score 10-5. The Titans' offensive outburst propelled them into Sunday night's championship game against the second seeded Richmond River Rats.
The Titans' secret formula of great pitching, merciless hitting and aggressive baserunning led them to an 11-0 run rule of the River Rats in just 5 innings of play. Titan bats combined for 11 runs on 12 hits, while Pat Brosch shut down the usually potent River Rat bats with five straight goose-eggs to bring the Championship Trophy back to Kyle Chapman Pony League for the second consecutive year.
By winning the tournament, the K.C. Titan 14's earned a berth in this year's USSSA South Zone tournament, and did themselves proud in the process.
The great pitching, terrific hitting, solid defense and aggressive baserunning demonstrated by the 2003-04 K.C. Titans make this author think that the players' parents had better not make too many plans for the summer of 2004. They could be watching a LOT of baseball. This is a very tired Scott Rothenberg saying, "Congratulations on bringing home the shiny hardware and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Titans!!!"

Titans-
Cliff's plans for the tournament this weekend are:
1. Nothing Friday.
2. Games on Saturday:
Game 1 is at noon on Sat. at Greater Sugarland field #1 in 1st Colony
against the Texas Lonestars. Hibbert, Brosch, Knowlton, Rohrbach, and Mann should arrive at the KC field at 9:45am, all others should arrive at 10am for warmups. We will provide each player a sandwich and drink around 10:30-45am and then leave KC shortly thereafter, for the drive to 1st Colony. We will need some parents to volunteer to carpool.
Game 2 is at 3pm on Sat. at the Baker field in Sugarland (about 15
minutes from GSL fields) against the Texas Terror. We will provide a small snack and drink for each player between games. We should have about an hour between games to make the commute, etc.
3. Games on Sunday will depend on how we do on Saturday. We are
guaranteed a minimum of three games, so we automatically qualify to
play at least one game on Sunday, but could play as many as three games. More details late Saturday.
4. We will wear the white jersey uniform, with white pants, blue
socks and belt, and Texas Ranger hat for game 1 on Saturday. Please also bring your alternate blue t-shirt jersey so that the team can decide if they want a color change or a cooler jersey for game 2.
5. The street addresses for the fields are:
GSL #1
3232 Austin Parkway
Sugarland, TX
Baker Field
225 7th Street

Uniforms Update

14YO Select Parents - This past Saturday, the team settled on the following uniforms:
Primary Uniform :
The primary uniform will be to reuse the existing white jerseys (which KC owns) with royal blue trim, team name (Titans) and numbering . We will also wear solid white pants, royal blue socks, royal blue belt, and the royal blue Texas Rangers hat with the white 'T'. As the temperature will become cooler during the season, we will purchase an inexpensive royal blue t-shirt (crew neck) to wear under the white jersey.
Secondary Uniform :
For days where we play more than one game, the team may decide to
create a different uniform look. The secondary uniform will be created by simply removing the white primary jersey and using a royal blue short sleeve t-shirt (with KC and numbers in white) as the game jersey. [For those who played on the 2002 fall KC Titans, this will be identical to that t-shirt, so your existing t-shirt may still fit].
Pitchers :
For those who are pitchers (and actually all kids should consider
this), it is highly recommended that you purchase a LONG sleeve royal blue undershirt or turtle neck due to the cooler weather. This long sleeve shirt can be either an Under Armour ($49) or a cotton shirt ($15).......your choice......but please make it Royal Blue, so that the team matches. Reminder...pitchers can not wear white or grey long sleeve shirts. [Parents.......my experience in late October and November, is that the kids (and spectators) will want as many clothes in layers that they can get on and still comfortably move, so having both a short sleeve and long sleeve t-shirt is a good idea].
My notes from Saturday show the sizes to be:
Player White Jersey Pant
1. Knowlton AXL AL
2. Rothenberg AXL AL
3. Jones AL AM
4. Hibbert AL AM
5. Brosch AL AM
6. Rohrbach AM AM
7. Chan AM AM
8. McKee AL AM
9. Haynes AL AM
10. Lopez AL AM
11. Mann AM AM
12. Kelly AM AM
13. Schaeffer AL AM
14. Burns AM (*) YL
(*) to be purchased/altered... only thing left was AL
Each player will purchase the uniform items which you will retain, as
follows: solid white pants ($17), royal blue socks ($3), royal blue
belt ($3.50), royal blue short sleeve undershirt ($5), royal blue long sleeve cotton mock turtle neck ($15) [or you can opt for the Under Armour], and royal blue secondary game t-shirt with numbers ($16.50). Assuming you purchase all items through the team order, these items will cost $60 total.
At this time, I need the following:
(a) for 2002 fall players, check and see if your old t-shirt with
numbers still fits and is otherwise reusable by you. IF IT DOES FIT and you want to reuse, then please advise the number of this uniform. If it does NOT fit, please advise (1) what size you need, and (2) give me THREE uniform (blue jersey) numbers in order of preference. [Your blue jersey number and white jersey number will be different. We will deal with white jersey numbers later.].
(b) for those players who do not have an existing blue t-shirt with
numbers, please advise (1) what size you need, and (2) give me THREE
uniform (blue jersey) numbers in order of preference.
(c) whether you want a long sleeve shirt. If so, identify size, and
style (Under Armour or cotton).
(d) whether you want extra items, e.g., pants, socks. [Note: if some of you already own royal blue socks or royal blue belt and desire to reuse, also advise, otherwise, I will assume you want new stuff].
I would like this information by noon tomorrow (Friday) if possible, so that I can order all the stuff. Before I order, I'll verify your
request.
Thanks.
