Pacific Coast League competition will take a short hiatus when the Hawks compete in the 34th Annual Anaheim Lions Spring Break Tournament starting on Saturday, March 22.  The 46 team tournament will be played over 4 days and include 115 games.  The Hawks are scheduled to play against:

1. Temescal Canyon H.S. on Saturday, March 22, at Boysen Park at 1:00PM;

2. Chaminade H.S. on Monday, March 24 at Glover Stadium at 10:00AM;

3. Western H.S. on Monday, March 24, at Laguna Hills H.S. at 3:00PM; and

4. Gahr H.S. on Tuesday, March 25 at Brookhurst Park at 7:30PM.

Last year, more then 38 High School teams participated in the Lions Tournament which started in 1975 with only eight teams.  The Anaheim Lions Club is proud to provide an opportunity for the participating High Schools to compete against each other on the baseball field, while at the same time allowing them to raise funds to help the blind and the visually handicapped and other worthwhile charities.

The winning team will receive the perpetual trophy to display at their school for one year. A tournament Champion trophy, a second place trophy and an MVP trophy will be presented as well.

Other local teams in the Tournament include: Aliso Niguel, Capo Valley, Dana Hills, El Toro, Laguna Beach, Mission Viejo, San Clement, Tesoro, and Trabuco Hills.

Other high profile teams in the Tournament include: Long Beach Wilson, Mater Dei, Katella, Riverside Poly, and Santa Margarita.

The 2008 season opens this Friday, February 29, at Laguna Hills High School with the Hawks facing La Quinta High School in round #1 of the Newport Harbor Elks Lodge 1767 Tournament.  The Tournament features 60 teams from Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. The Tournament is divided into three brackets:  Foothill, Frank Lerner, and Costa Mesa.

The Hawks play in the Foothill Bracket.

HAWKS' BASEBALL DIAMONDS UNDERGO RENOVATION

Posted by Eric Michelman at Jan 28, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

With the start of the Spring Sport season around the corner, the renovation of the LHHS baseball diamonds are nearing completion.  Both the Varsity and Freshman diamonds have seen extensive work including a completely new infield and pitching mound on the Freshman diamond and new turf on the Varsity diamond.  The Varsity diamond awaits new dirt formulated from a combination of materials which is the same used in many major league ballparks.  The final phase will be to laser level the basepaths and the skin areas of the field.
