2010 Diamond Cats 18U/Women's

Posted by Cynthia Seltzer at Aug 7, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The 2010 Diamond Cats played a mix of 18U and women's.  We had girls ranging in age from 16 to 20 this year, and for the first time did not play a single game at KAA.  We played in 2 Women's Tournaments and the Women's League played at SLU.  We also played several 18U tournaments including ASA Metros, Best of the Midwest, and the KC Heartland Classic.  We had a great group of girls playing together, and we were really glad to get the older Diamond Cats to fill in for us when we were playing Women's games.  It was a great summer of softball.

  • vs. Venezuela - Won 15 - 5: Team USA captured the bronze in overwhelming fashion! JJ went 2 for 2 with a sacrifice fly.  She played right field and did not get any chances.  She was interviewed after the game and the interpreter said that she and Tamara Holmes were considered heroes in Venezuela, and what did she think about that?  She was very modest and complimented the home town fans and how enthusiastic the crowd was.  She was indeed the Diamond Cat hero of the World Cup!  We are so proud of her!!!

JJ was honored by being selected to the All-Star Team at the end of the tournament.  Out of all the players in the world, she was selected as the shortstop for the all-tournament team.  Great job, JJ!!
