"Merry Christmas"

Posted by Robert Griffin, Jr at Dec 24, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Happy Holidays to the Five Hills Community & our cherished Five Hills Track & Field Club Athletes and Family members. We hope God has answered your many desires as this year comes to a close. I, Coach Griffin would like to personal thanks all who prayed for my safe return to my family, and the aspiring Jack Rabbit from the "War" in Iraq. I was extremely blessed upon hearing of my scheduled return and putting Baghdad in my "Rear View Mirror of Life". I thought "Operation Iraqi Freedom" was a life moving experience, but the efforts of our "Sprinters - Mid & Long Distance Runners - Jumpers - Throwers and Multi-Events Athletes transition me into a tranquil existence. The short notice, high intensity training development regimen and qualifying track meets served as a therapeutic time of passage from the horrors of the War. Before I knew, I was driving in Canada heading towards "The Games of America" in Hartford, Connecticut. I'm glad to profess, "I have no hang ups or post dramatic stress associated with fighting a gruesome combative engagement." So I thank God for my ability to wish you all a wonderful Holiday Season with blessing fulfilled in Jesus Christ name, thank you again. To "ALL" the Five Hills Track & Field Club coaches, CCISD Coaches & Directors, our very own Cove Leader Press, NBC KCEN News & Sports Television, and the local businesses both in Copperas Cove and Killeen who find a way to help us give our time and talents to the "Community's Most Valued Resources", THANK YOU!!! "Train Hard, Eat Right, Hydrate!!! Coach Griffin
Thank you to all who participated in the Annual Banquet. It was a huge success! Congratulations to all of our award recipients and athletes. Laura Ornelas
Hello Five Hills Track & Field Club Family. We are entering the pinnacle of an illustrious 2003 Summer Track Campaign. So before our athletes journey to Detroit to take on the best young people in the United States, and engage in the Games of Texas, we must have a reflective and growth period. Our Banquet marks the end of a season, but the start of a promising 2004 year in Athletics (Track & Field). We have many appreciative gifts for our athletes, and after we eat more than we should (Diet Day Off) at Ryan's in Killeen. We shall bestowed honor to our Athletes. Remember, bread is the enemy, and fried foods clog arteries and degrades performance! It would be remiss of me if I didn't share with you our "Most Outstanding Performance of the Year" (MOPY). We had many triumphs in competition and at practice, but no peformance can top the performance of our our five Sprint Hurdlers at the South Texas Association Championship on 28 June 2003 (2nd Qualifer). Johnathan Woods, Valerie Hancock, Robert Griffin,III., Joshua Woods and Ian Donovan Johnson moved on to the AAU's Region #9 Championship with the radiance of Gold respresenting hard work and belief in our program over the sticks. So, congratulation to the coaches, parents and athletes who "Benchmarked" our Hurdling Program for others to emulate. What an astounding accomplishment, five gold medals in five different divisions, in AAU competition! Annual Awards Declaration Coaches Ballot I. The following awards are given to the five outstanding athletes for the 2003 season. Each coach will cast their vote for: 1. Most Accomplished Athlete 2. Benchmark Athlete 3. Most Inspiring Athlete 4. Iron Man/Woman Award 5. The One To Watch Award II. The guidelines for each award are as follows: 1. Most Accomplished Athlete – must have at least qualified for the National Junior Olympics or to the Games of Texas. This athlete should have good practice habits, be an example to his/her fellow Jack Rabbits, and a resume of accomplishments far superior to his/her peers. 2. Benchmark Athlete – must have showed continued improvement over the track season holding on to what the Coach(s) taught them, and not wavering to others way of executing their performance. This athlete's attitude, practice habits, performance or potential should epitomize the reputation of a Five Hills Track & Field Athlete. 3. Most Inspiring Athlete - must have at least made it to the AAU Region #9 Finals (Top 8th in State). Athletic accomplishments depict a sound resume of competitive efforts (i.e. top five finishes). Their performances should be savored by the coaches, parents and their fellow athletes without question. 4. Iron Man/Woman Award – any athletes who posses a wide range of ability, while performing on a high level of each event participating. This award is for a skilled athlete who can run, jump and throw. 5. The "One To Watch" Award – This athlete is a promising individual. He/she could be headed to the Junior Olympics, Games of America, Games of Texas, Region #9 Winner, Finalist; it doesn’t matter. This athlete could be described as, “Oh so close to…!” III. Disqualifiers for receiving awards. 1. Past recipients of any of the above awards are not eligible for any award for a period of two (2) years. If those athletes are worthy of recognition, then at the banquet, the coaches can share with the Track & Field Family their honorable mention accolades during the ceremony by having the athlete stand up in great recognition. They will be honored among the 2003 recipients. 2. Of course disruptive behavior, unsportsmanlike conduct and disrespect towards coaches, parents, fellow athletes or equipment shall not yield those athletes recognition. IV. Balloting Process – independent selecting or recommending is a must. We ask the coaches to not confer with each other while making their selection or recommendation. In the event of an unclear selection. Coach Griffin will bring the coaches together to dialogue a winner, though he will not have a vote. There are three of you all voting (Coach Graham, Coach L. Woods & Coach Ornelas), so there will be no ties. 1. Most Accomplished Athlete: _______________________ 2. Benchmark Athlete: _______________________ 3. Most Inspiring Athlete: _______________________ 4. Iron Man/Woman Award: _______________________ 5. The One To Watch Award: _______________________ V. 2002 Winners 1. Most Accomplished Athlete: Robert L. Griffin, III 2. Benchmark Athlete: Alexandria Norris 3. Most Inspiring Athlete: Danielle Peters (6 years old) VI. Please keep the balloting process and results confidential until we reveal the five (5) outstanding achieving athletes at our Banquet at Ryan’s on July 19, 2003, Thank You!
