The 16U State Championship Tournament is now down to the last 3 teams as the Bulldogs defeated the Puget Sound Shockers 4-3. 

The Shockers scored one run in both the first and second inning to take an early 2 run lead.  The Bulldogs scored one in the 3rd inning when Pat Minzel walked, advanced to second on a pass ball and then scored on a single by Conner Cloyd.  The Schockers scored again in the top of the 4th inning to hld their 3 run lead.  In bottom of the 5th inning, the Bulldogs rallied starting with a one out single by pinch hitter Quinton Dickerson.  Austin Brand came up big with a 2 out single and 3 RBI to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead.

The Shockers got the leadoff batter on in the top of the second but the rally stalled quickly as second baseman Trevor Baldwin made a highlight reel play fielding a ground ball, tagging the runner and throwing out the hitter for the double play. Relief pitcher Pat Minzel then ended the game with a strike out.

Pat Minzell got the win in 5 2/3 innings releif striking out 5 while giving up 6 hits and 2 walks.

The Bulldogs meet Seattle Select Purple at 9:00 AM at Bannerwood in the Championship Round.

The 16U Bulldogs lost 3-1 to the Seattle Stars in a game between the last two undefeated teams in the State 16U Championship Tournament Friday night.  Bulldog pitching and defense were stellar but the offensive power, the Bulldogs have shown all year,  was missing.  Both teams advance to the final four with the Bulldogs now one loss from elimination.

The tournament is now down to four teams with the Stars and Seattle Select playing Saturday at 3:00. 

The Shockers will play the Bulldogs at 6:00 PM.  Both games are at Bannerwood Park.

 

The Bulldogs scored 5 runs in the first 2 innings and that was all that was needed behind Left handed pitcher Carl Derline who threw a complete game shut out at Bannerwood park in the second round of the state championship tournament.

Derline threw 103 pitches striking out 10 and scattering 4 hits and 2 walks.  He also got two defensive assists including a double play.  Neither team comitted an error.

An early challenge by the Tigers was cut short at the plate by a perfect throw from left fielder Connor Cloyd to catcher Joe Greaney to get the final out of the 2nd inning. 

Cloyd also led the offense going 3-4 at the plate and scoring 1 run.  Jake Kushan added 2 hits, including a double, in 4 trys and Austin Brand was 2-4 with 2 singles.

The 16U Bulldogs entered the State Championship Tournament as the #2 seed and won their first game at Samammish HS -vs- The Senators.  The Bulldogs gave up 3 runs in the top of the first inning on 5 hits and 1 run in the top of the second inning to go down 4-0.

In the bottom of the 2nd the bulldogs loaded the bases for third baseman Tyler Stumph who hit a grand slam to start a 7 run inning and added another un in teh third inning.

The Senators came back in the top of the 7th inning scoring 2 runs before the Bulldogs got the final out.

Douglas Jones got the win in 6 inning of relief pitching allowing only  3 hits and 3 runs for the win.

In addition the the Stumph Grand Slam, Austin Brand was 2-4 withy an RBI and a DBL and Catcher Joe Greaney was 2-3 with an RBI and a DBL.

The Bulldogs face the Tigers in second round play at 7:00 PM  Wednesday at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.

16U Bulldogs WIn Streak Ends at 10

The 16U Bulldogs lost 8 - 7 to Toyota in the second game of the SI Sportstown Kent, WA tournament to end their win streak at 10 games.

After falling behind early, the dogs rallied 3 times, including scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th, but with the tying run on second base the Bulldogs just couldn't get it done.

Saturday, the Bulldogs play Reality Sports in the final game of round robin play.  It will take a win to put the Bulldogs in the Championship round.
