Norsemen vs. Northville (November 14, 2006) 7-1 WIN

Norsemen start out with a 7 - 1 win against Northville on Tuesday night.. The game started out slow due to an over abundance of penalties being accessed to both teams. 14 minutes out of 15 were spent killing off penalties in the first period. The Norsemen claimed 4 out of the 7 penalties that were called in the first period. . However, Norsemen did prevail in the long stretch of playing shorthand by picking up a goal by Marissa (#10) with an assisted by Christie (#15) and Sarah (#4). Second period the Norsemen still struggled with the sin bin but that didn't stop Kate (#13 and Norsemen's Captain) with her individual effort to pickup a shorthanded goal on a 5 on 3 to put the Norsemen ahead to a 2-0 lead. This was one of two shorthanded goals that the Norsemen produced during the long stretch of penalties. One more goal was scored in the second by Marissa (#10), her second of the night, assisted by Kate (#13). Northville pressed hard on their next power play in the second which resulted in their first and only goal of the night by Ruzylo (#22). Shockingly no penalties were called in the third period and the Norsemen were able to settle down and turned it up one more notch to score the next four goals. Both Kate (#13) and Marissa (#10) produced goals to achieve their first hat trick of the season. Senior Phelicia (#22) also found the back of the net on a great pass by Kate (#13). Coach Scott said, " I am happy that the team made an adjustment in the third period to stay out of the box which made it easier for the team to get into a rhythm and create more offensive opportunities, resulting in the four goals this period." Overall, the Norsemen controlled the majority of the play and had a solid penalty kill effort with only allowing 1 goal out of Norsemen's 10 penalties. Goaltending was sharp by Tori (#30) and the Norsemen took advantage on many of their scoring opportunities. Norsmen Stars of the game = Kate (#13) 3 goals and 2 assists and Marissa (#10) 3 goals and 1 assist
