Repeat! Repeat!

The Grosse Pointe North Lady Norsemen competed in the annual University of Liggett Holiday Tournament on December 2nd and 3rd. The Norsemen had two convincing wins including a 6 to 3 win against Cranbrook Kingswood and a 6 to 0 shutout in the final against Northville to repeat as tournament Champions! During the semifinal game against Cranbrook the Lady Norsemen came out and dominated play in the first two periods, shutting down the Cranes offense to lead after two periods by a score of 5 to 0. The goal scorers included Marissa L. (#10), Kate Z.(#13), Rachel L.(#9), and Sarah H.(#4) each with one. During the third period, the Norsemen had a letdown on the penalty kill and gave up a power play goal. However, they immediately responded with a goal of there own just 28 seconds later to take a 6 to 1 lead. The goal scorer was Kate Z.(#13), her second of the contest. The game concluded with a late tally by the Cranes, but it was too little too late as the Lady Norsemen ended the contest with a 6 to 3 victory. In the final game versus Northville, the Lady Norsemen Hockey team faced some minor adversity. The Mustangs from Northville showed up ready to play and despite an early goal by Kate Z.(#13), the Northville’s goaltender kept the score to 1 to 0 through two periods. Despite the constant pressure and dominance of puck possession and territorial advantage for the Norsemen, the net minder from Northville played outstanding. Third period, the Norsemen came out poised and continued to pressure the Mustangs, the pressure was too much for the Northville team to bear and the Norsemen put 5 more tallies on the board. Goal scorers included Katie L.(#24), Angela G.(#2), Kate Z.(#13), and Marissa L.(#10). In addition, credit needs to be given to our freshman goaltender Tori B. (#31) who earned her first shut out of the season by making some brilliant saves including shutting the door twice on two breakaways by Northville. The game ended in a 6 to 0 victory for the Norsemen. All Tournament Team Honors went to: Goalie Tori B. (#30) Forward Kate Z. (#13) Defense Rachel L. (#9)

Mercy Rule

Posted by Paul Gard at Dec 9, 2007 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
I want to remind teams that only the goals up to the 8 goal differential count towards the league stats.  Until the extra goals (and assists) are taken out of the stats and Jim can confirm that, your team's stats will not be used for purposes of determining the "Top 20."
I'm disappointed that this issue has come up again and I hope that the member schools will curtail going above the Mercy Rule in future games.

Norsemen vs. Port Huron (November 30, 2006) 5-1 WIN

The lady Norsemen took their first road trip to Port Huron on November 30 and ran into a very physical Rebel team. Although the Norsemen slowed down by the Rebel physical defense, they battled through the first period and with goals from Sarah (#4) and Kate (#13), just 38 seconds apart, putting them ahead after one period by a score of 2 to 1. Adjustments were made in the second and a very determined Norsemen team scored two more in the second with goals coming from Marissa (#10) and Alexia (#3). In the third period, Kate (#13) scored her second of the game and the Norsemen ladies finished the game victorious by a score of 5 to 1.
