News and Announcements

The Canton Lions had a VERY impressive showing at the 2007 WSJFL Cheer Rally this past Saturday. All 14 Teams in the WSJFL had at least 3 squads participating and some had 4 with the addition of the Jr. Freshman program.  Our Freshman Cheer Team received Gold in the cheer competition and Gold in the dance competition.  Their Gold Medal dance performance was the dance performed at our Homecoming game this past September.  They were in Division B of the competition which were teams that had more then 15 members on their squad.  Their score, however, was the best score in BOTH Divisions.  Congratulations to our Canton Lions Freshman Team! Our Junior Varsity Cheer Team also won Gold in the cheer competition!  They were in Division B of the competition as well.  Congratulations to our Junior Varsity Cheer Team! And finally, as you would probably guess, our Varsity Cheer Team ALSO won Gold in the cheer competition!  Yes, it was a sweep by the Canton Lions this weekend!  Our Varsity Team also won Bronze in the dance competition with the performance they did at Homecoming this year as well.  They were in Division A of the competition.  Congratulations Varsity!  Saturday certainly was a GREAT day to be a Canton Lion!  Our cheerleaders worked tirelessly the past 2 weeks preparing for the Rally and it sure paid off.  Congratulations to OUR Canton Lions!

Lions split Super Bowl games

Posted by Roger Peterson at Nov 12, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The Canton Lions JV squad completed a perfect season by defeating the Brighton Bulldogs 39-22 in the 2007 WSJFL Superbowl.  The Lions began the game in the same fashion that they have all season by taking the first offensive play from scrimmage 60 yards for a rushing touchdown by Malcolm Hollingsworth.  Hollingsworth went on to score two more rushing touchdowns on carries of 16 and 33 yards.  In addition, Jamal Eiland scored a touchdown on a 6 yard run. Other offensive scores included a 30 yard touchdown pass from Eiland to Scott Gring, an extra point pass from Devin Slominski to Jordan Ciciotti, and a successful PAT kick by Lucas Bunting.  Defensively, Ciciotti scored on a 34 yard interception return for a touchdown.  There were two other interceptions made by Jamal Eiland, and Brandon Lee.  Other key defensive performers included a blocked extra point by Luke Denzer, and several tackles for losses by Collin Hall.

The Lions Varsity team fell to a strong Dearborn Heights Redskin team 37-13.  The Lions grabbed an early lead, but were unable to match the offensive production of the older & bigger Redskin team.  The Lions Varsity finished the season with a very respectable 7-2-1 record.  More detail will be added soon.

Junior Freshman face tough Braves

The Lions’ Junior Freshman faced their toughest test of the year against the Braves on Saturday.  The game was a great learning experience for the entire team.  The Lions struggled to gain momentum  in a mistake filled game.  Conner Flanigan showed great speed on defense with the help of Ryan Cassidy, Wesley Askew and Preston Sokol.  Adam Pitcole, Luke Bonifacio, Nicholas Krone, Chase Meredith and Tony Schembri  stepped up with great effort the entire day.

Junior Varisty return to winning waysThe Lions offense and defense were very tough in their 32-12 win against the RailSplitters.  Offensively, the Lions touchdown runs came from Jacob Miller, Matthew Wayne, and two from Jason Arnold.  Defensively, the Lions scored on a 60 yard interception return from Jacob Miller.  Line play was very strong on both sides of the ball led by Jackson Austin, Mason Robichaud, Joey Glunt, Carter Kahl, Isaac Jackson, and Jackob Wickens.
